Game Won't Start Since Updating Origin

I've no idea why this issue actually started or even if it's somehow actually connected to the Origin update or not, but since Origin updated, I now can't get past the launcher to actually get my game to load without it generating an error message (and absolutely nothing showing up in my launcher in terms of content I've installed/downloaded/planned to upload, etc.). In addition, the launcher is showing the version number as 0.0.0.0 versus the actual version number that I have installed/last patch.

When I tried searching for it via a search engine (and not just on this forum), I came across really old mentions of people having this same message, albeit in relation to past pack releases (long before the final pack or patch releases) or suggestions of a patch, etc. which are irrelevant now given how long I've had my game installed combined with the obvious fact that we haven't had any patch releases or anything new really added to this game in years, etc. which have left me wondering just what the heck happened to cause this with my game all of a sudden? There have been zero changes to my system nor anything new added to my game, etc. There are also no issues with my Windows install nor any driver-related issues nor was there anything in my registry that appeared to be amiss either.

Unfortunately, uninstalling/reinstalling is not an option at the moment for a number of reasons. I did try to move my existing directory out and tried to get the game to regenerate a fresh directory that way in the off-chance something may have gone awry with my existing game yet still received the same error message.

So far, this is the only game where I'm noticing any issues getting it to run post-Origin update (I can't comment on Sims4 as I'm having to hold off on updating my game for some of the reasons why reinstalling is not an option and can't seem to get it to load without it prompting me to update, so don't know if it's also been impacted but other Origin titles that I own and have installed are all loading just fine; it's just Sims3 that appears to be acting up at the moment and of course, admittedly play Sims3 more than I do any other game on my desktop).

The specific error message I seem to be receiving when the launcher appears is "There was an error during startup please see Log for details." Yet, I did not see any log files dated from the time since this issue began so don't know where I should be looking on that front/which log file in the hopes it may somehow hopefully indicate what the problem may be.

Any insight as to what have happened to my game or how to get it resolved (short of reinstalling) will be appreciated. Thanks!

  • The Launcher version 0.0.0.0 thing is a symptom of a broken install, but a lot of different things can actually cause that. Have or could you try running an Origin Repair Game on TS3 to help realign Origin with the installation? Possibly that is all that is broken right now.
  • I did try and run the repair game option under Origin. However, when I hit "play" and the launcher came up, same problem and situation as before. :( Thanks for the suggestion, though.
  • Happy to report that my game appears to be loading fine (along with the launcher) as of my typing this.

The drive I had my game install files on appears to have gone bad (my saved game files nor OS were never impacted as they sit on a different drive entirely), which I'm now thinking may have been responsible for what happened to my game. I've replaced the drive and so can now happily say I have my game back.

Thanks again for the help! :)
