Thanks for the kind words, and I appreciate your kiddies forgiving me, @Thursday10pm ! Now to open a new chapter for the Sparrows:
Lucky Palms was a bit of a shock. Always before, Katie and her family had lived in farming or forest lands - and this was anything but. Everett heartily approved of it, however. "A perfect land for genies," he exclaimed. "Oases and desert cliffs!" While the teens helped Katie and Marcie set the house to rights, Everett saddled up Elayna and went for an exploratory ride. Straight out from the new lot were stony bluffs and sand in three directions; the fourth followed the road to the oasis around which the town was centered. The local Equestrian Center was right next door, and on the far side was a confectionary-colored playground.
The new stable was looked more like a fortress, built of white stone and squared off. The high ceiling allowed heat to rise, as well as providing loft space for storage. The house was also white stone and square, although the kids agreed the flat roof made it look unfinished.
Wren took a short break from unpacking to bring in the new mare, leased from the entertainment company that wanted Electrum's foals. She had stripes of her own and went by the name of Quagga. Katie was a bit skeptical when she saw her and gave her a careful going-over. "Some brindle horses have a skin disease called Incontinentia Pigmenti", she explained to her daughter. "It causes skin disease under the stripes and frequently causes tooth problems as well. I'll want her tested before breeding to her; I don't want to risk an unhealthy foal. Unfortunately, the other brindles don't generally pass the color on." Katie placed a quick call to the vet, to schedule a checkup for the mare and a general introduction, then resumed unpacking the gnomes. She favored the newest, which she had found in the time machine at the end of one trip, with a pat on the head as she set him out.
Everett, meanwhile had found a lovely lake hidden behind the bluffs. Clearly there was much to be explored around the new house.
