I sent one of my Sims off to University, and when she arrived everything was fine. A few minutes later her roommates appeared and started to become part of the active household. Roommates are meant to be NPCs, not Sims that you can control. As you can see in this picture I sent One Sim off to University, and when she arrived all of her Roommates became controllable characters. I have a few Nraas mods, but I don't see how they could be causing the problem. Thank you.

Thank you.Do you have nrass portrait panel?if so ,this happens every time you go to uni with that mod.though they shouldn't really be controllable ,just have their picture there.if you double click one of their pictures it should no nothing at all and you should only be able to control your own sim.if I missed anything @igazor would know more.

@MemoriiValentine is exactly right. The PortraitPanel mod displays the non-controllable roommate sims in the panel on the left. Clicking on them only focuses the game camera on those sims, you can't actually take control of them and they are not part of your sim's household. You can actually use the mod to add other non-selectable sims from other households to the panel that way, if you wanted to.But you can switch the feature off entirely in PP's options if you want. NRaas > PP > Options > Filter > Only Selectable > (change to True).You can also get to PP's options by right-clicking on the Cycle Portraits button at the bottom of the panel.

This happened once to me after I activated Story Progression in university. I never did it again.

I know this post is very old, but I recently came into this problem. I don't have any mods or anything.The fixed for me was go into 'Edit Town', then click on the household and make sure it's under "Residential Lot - Regular" and not under "Residental Lot - Apartment."Hopefully, it helps!

I've never seen it in Uni myself but had it happen to me with an NPC roommate in a homeworld not long ago. I was eventually going to make that roommate a member of the household anyway so I played through it. Otherwise I would have kicked them out or found them someplace else to live in town.Afraid though that EA isn't going to be fixing anything. TS3 is what it is, it's been out of development for well over four years now. The last meaningful game patch we got was 1.66 in Jan 2014, the next one was trivial and the last one (1.69) did not affect the game files at all, it only provided the required Origin tie-in. From all accounts, the TS3 development team "left the building" long ago.

Portrait panel does this but they shouldn't be controllable. I also used Story Progression in University and it happened to me. Use testingcheatsenabled true and Delete the sims or you can move your sims into a university rentable house

This happens to me all the time without even sending the Sims to the university. I don't have portrait panel or anything like that either. EA has to fix this, it's a pain in the backside.

@nightlite, sadly EA is done fixing anything for TS3 as they are done with us now and only cares on fixing TS4.

If you're having issues with this, then maybe post it over in this thread for new members to post their problems in and someone over there might be able to help you fix it.

I know it’s been many years but I just got the same bug and I could control them. I fixed it by using portrait panel by right clicking the cycle icon at the bottom then clicking ‘sims to list’ and set ‘active household’ to false. Essentially everything was set to false in that page and it fixed it!
