Help with New PC Settings for TS3

Just got around to installing the base game (I won't have space enough for all EPs etc.). The game has set my graphic card to low on details for Sims, lot distance etc. I can set these myself however, my questions concern taking advantage of the newer card and processors.

Is there a graphical rule fix or gpu fix to find my video card and set it up to get the most details with good performance or do I have to do this in some config file, too, for TS3?

Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 Super, AMD Rysen 5 3500, 6 core processors, 3.6 GHZ. Only 8GBs of DDR6 RAM right now. SSD

Any links or info would be appreciated. Windows 10 Home
  • i run Sims 3 1.67 in windows xp sp3 compatibility mode which makes a huge difference for me. As far as setting up graphics, I found this with a quick google which uses your card as an example. https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/Sims-3-Graphic-Card-issue/td-p/9387623
  • @Felicity, thank you very much! I wondered what it was I have to change in TS3 since we have to do the same stuff for TS2 if we can't get the Graphics Rule Maker to set things right. My card is just barely a step above the 1650 but I'm going to try this to see if things improve. Thank you very much!
  • I just wanted to pop in and say that the guide linked will work fine for your card IF you substitute your device ID for the one provided. So in this line:

    card 0x1f91 "GeForce GTX 1650"

Replace the bolded 1f91 with your card's device ID. You can find the ID in a number of places, including the deviceconfig.log, in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3; this is the relevant part in bold, from about 35 lines down:

    Name (driver): Radeon Pro 560
Name (database): AMD Radeon Pro 560 Series
    Vendor: ATI
    Chipset: Vendor: 1002, Device: 67ef, Board: 0179106b, Chipset: 00c0

As for graphics settings, if you have a 1920x1080 monitor, you should be able to play on ultra graphics settings, minus the two (water and high-detail lots) that need to be turned down to lower the demands on the game engine. I usually play with those on "mirrors only" and 2, respectively.

I also don't play in compatibility mode, and I've never had an issue running the game in Windows 10.
  • Thank you for the help! I'm going to do all that (I hope I retain what I have read, lol) this week. I was trying to get all my store stuff but some wouldn't download the other day said not available right now. Once I have all my store stuff downloaded then I'm going to work on my graphic rules, so I really do appreciate all the info, hope I can set it correctly because the smooth edges etc. is on, but doesn't do much but not as bad as when I had to set up TS2, too. I won't have enough space to add my EPs, but a few, but would like to play again, as I need a break (out of ideas) for my TS2. I enjoyed a lot about TS3, once I get things set up again. Just trying to stay away from the 1.69 patch and install my dvds/cds.
