- Amphorasims8 years agoNew SpectatorI only jump in when death is imminent. Otherwise, it's each sim for themselves and much entertainment for me :p
- I don't understand the question. Is there any other way to play?
This game would drive me crazy if I didn't micromanage. My sims almost never pursue important skills on their own, and even when they're taking care of necessary chores, they rarely make the best decisions. For example, I was testing out some stuff over the weekend and as a result, a few times I let one or the other of my two current sims do whatever they wanted for a while (I wasn't planning to save). Here's how they spent their days:Spoiler
Nathan left to his own devices:- turned on two stereos, danced briefly to the music of one of them
- cleaned up laundry (nice idea, but there's a reason you have a maid)
- watched TV for several hours, then grabbed leftovers of normal quality autumn salad which I should have thrown away
- ignored the love of his life all day until she finally decided to do something useful (play chess), at which point he just had to spam her with some friendly, not romantic, interactions
Nathan controlled by me:- harvested some fruit and brewed two batches of nectar
- upgraded one of the nectar machines; finished another upgrade
- used perfect ingredients to make perfect stu surprise
Paulina left to her own devices:- slept through the start of an early extra shift at the police station, got dinged in job performance
- worked this shift and her regular one using the "business as usual" tone, got some XP
- went to the grocery store (because I sent her), then sat on the sidewalk to charm a snake (really?)
- came home, played chess for a bit (good idea, since she's still not maxed out)
- cooked normal-quality mac 'n' cheese despite living with a natural cook who can make perfect meals, and despite there being perfect leftovers in the fridge
Paulina controlled by me:- worked hard for most of those two shifts before dialing it back; got a fat raise (she's at level 10 already)
- came home, finished in the garden, then played chess all afternoon
- spent some quality time with Nathan before bed
I rest my case. - turned on two stereos, danced briefly to the music of one of them
- simgirl5428 years agoSeasoned AceRecently, I have to say with a lot of praying that my game won't crash and I don't pray. I don't know if it's my mods that are too old or if I once again unknowingly did something to cause the crashing. I don't want to go back to sims 4, (it's bored me for a while and I can't justify paying $40 for the new expansion), but with all of the crashing recently and it's frequent like before I broke down and added Nraas to my game, I might have to.
- riennatelemnar8 years agoSeasoned AceI find it interesting that 50% of the responses are control freaks like myself. If one of my sims takes off to do something on their own, I will quickly check to make sure I approve of their action and let them go if it won't hurt my carefully thought out plan for the Sim day. ;)
- I usually invent a story and try to make it happen. I play with free will on so random things do happen to spice my game up. Sometimes I don't like those events(example: a Sim who I like dies) but I roll with those random events anyway because that's what I love in TS3(anything can happen).
- But this applies only if I’m doing a story, otherwise I let the little buggers pretty much do whatever they want...to their own detriment!
- Ornkal8 years agoNew ScoutI'm so glad to see all these micromanages like myself!
I like to play legacy-style and keep a diary of all the fun things my sims do. I like to have my sims try to reach the highest level of their job and fulfill their lifetime wish. I like to ensure that each of my sims have a best friend whom they spend time with at least once a week and a few hobbies. I like to come up with large, vague story ideas and try to make them occur in my game, but since they are so vague, there's room for the game to add its own stuff. When playing, I like to look back on what my sims did in the past week and if I notice they haven't spent any time with a family member or enjoyed their hobby, or something lately, I make plans to remedy that in the next few days. My sims can let me know what they want via their wishes and I try to fulfill those as often as I can. I am making more of an effort to let my sims chose their own actions whenever I notice that I have nothing pressing for them to do.
One adorable instance of free will was right after my two sims, who are dating, graduated university. Preston, after tossing his diploma in the air, autonomously went right up to Fern and dip kissed her. It was so sweet! - guking8 years agoSeasoned AdventurerI play, they do what they feel like. If I have plans I do, but I don't control every thing. I wish the game could be more random.
- I like seeing what my sims get up to on their own. I enjoy creating diverse personalities, so it can be really fun to see what they do autonomously. I can't play completely hands off, though. Sims are pretty stupid and sometimes I have to intervene.

I don't play at all - I'm just setting up pictures to illustrate my story! :D
Probably what I should've said!
But I was focusing more on what I do when I actually play! ;)
