If You Want A Performance Increase... (You probably don't know about this)

So as we all know this game is a mess to play on newer hardware without GPU fixes, Nraas mods and such. And you've probably seen that this game tends to run better on older hardware for some reason.
Well the game is pretty CPU heavy, but at the same time it only ever utilizes 3 cores (and if you have a decent PC chances are you have a processor with more than 3 cores) so a lot of your CPU power is going underused which results in a lot of gameplay problems that would rely on a fast single core CPU speed.

Anyway, I found a 'fix' that's called 'unparking your CPU'. https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=4961408
What it basically does is makes sure all your cores are running at 100% which in turn means that the 3 cores that are being used by the game are always running at max.

I've been testing this out on my pc and have noticed a significant improvement. Things such as lag at 3x speed, stuttering car rides, and random stuttering are gone now. I also read that it decreases idle sims and makes them perform actions faster as well as populate community lots better. I never had problems with those before but people have. Also anytime I'm playing in a detailed world (like Boroughsburg) I never see grey objects when loading into a lot.

My game before trying this out was by no means unplayable, but the things I listed above that are now fixed were minorly annoying, but now my game is about as smooth as I think it can get.

If you have more than 3 cores and a high CPU clock speed and try this fix out, I guarantee you will notice a performance increase.

Just for reference, my specs - R7 3800x, 32gb Ram, RTX 2060S.

  • Unparking CPU cores isn't necessary in Windows 10. If you want to make sure the system is devoting all necessary resources to Sims 3, set Windows to run TS3.exe (Origin) or TS3W.exe (disc or Steam) in high-performance mode.

Sims 3 also uses a maximum of two CPU cores, not three.

I have windows 10. I tested this out, parked and unparked for several days. There is definitely a difference.

I also tried what you said a while back and didn’t notice a difference.
  • Not everyone gets positive results with unparking, although it's reportedly great for those who do. I tried this on my much older quad core on Win 7 and hated it -- my machine ran way too hot and I thought it put far too much stress on the hardware while playing. But as I run the game through Bootcamp on an iMac, my hardware setup isn't exactly typical.

I was also under the impression that none of this is necessary on Win 10. Maybe it matters which build, as the native unparking was added after Win 10 was fully released to market.
  • I use Windows 10. You can check to see if your cores are parked using the resource monitor. When I run in high performance mode, none of my cores are parked. However, I'm using an Intel CPU. Maybe it's different with an AMD CPU?

Edit: I'll add that Sims 3 runs better than Sims 4 does on my machine so it wasn't really a concern for me anyway.

My pc was at balanced by default, not high performance. So I guess all I really had to do was change the profile to high performance and once I do that my cores are unparked.
