My internal dvd drive broke so I can't play Sims 3 until I'm able to get a external dvd drive. :'( I'm so sad about this. I just started playing the game after about a year. In the mean time, I'm playing my games that are on Steam.

Just to clarify, if you own the base game and EP/SPs on disc and have registered or can register them (you were their original owners), then you get the rights to the Origin digital versions at no extra charge. And again, Origin can manage disc installs. That's not what you want since you don't want an Origin controlled game and Patch 1.69 in the first place, but repurchasing the games would not be necessary. That would be true for Steam, though.

I got my new external dvd player today. I plugged it in an can now play Sims 3. I so happy that I can play again. My non Sims games are not as much fun as any of the games in the Sims franchise. I could only play them because they are all Steam games so they don't have to use a disc.

Nice! :smiley: I'm glad that I have the Sims 3 on discs, though, because it feels like I really own the game when I can hold it in my hand. :blush:

What exactly happened? Is there anything in the computer manual which might help. Sometimes it is only a matter of freeing a jammed opening mechanism.

I dont use Origin or Steam so this might not be correct, but isnt there a way to register your games on them to play without a disk?

There is if you registered your discs, you get a free download version of the game. You would have to uninstall the disk version of the game and reinstall the download version. If OP is on the 167 patch with disc, if they use the download origin version they will be forced to the 1.69 patch and have to play with origin.

They could also buy the steam version of the game ( on sale) . Uninstall the disc origin version of the game and re-download steam version to stay at the 1.67 patch

Oh, my internal hard drive got to the point where I could only eject a dvd/cd manually. I have a shortcut on my desk top so I can easily eject them. So, I'm not surprised that it gave up. :'(

At least it's a cheap part and an easy fix. It would be more expensive to buy an internal optical drive considering the installation fee if you're not doing it yourself. An external device like you already mentioned is a good option along with the other suggestions here.

Hope you can sort it out and get back to simming soon. :)

I'm pretty sure you have to have digital down loads to do this. It would cost money and there's no reason to do this. I have most of the expansions already. I'm sure buying an external dvd drive would be a lot cheaper.
