large families over-whelming?

I usually start with a single sim, 3 to 4 sims is my comfort zone. Beyond that I tend to start moving sims out as kids age up. For pets I normally only allow one dog, since the games routing system for animals can cause them to block access to beds etc.

I usually like up to 5 Sims but it depends on ages. Adults can look after themselves but with children you need to keep an extra eye on the. Don't get me started on babies or toddlers. One is enough!

I prefer large families. I often have more than 8 in the household, my largest was 21 sims, 3 horses, one cat, one dog.
I've been breaking my larger families up lately and sending some of them to inhabit other worlds using the traveler mod. It does get laggy when the household is large and I've got a less than optimal puter. :)

With Nraas mods you can. It is tough though and I don't do that many anymore. :)

I have 20 sims and a cat currently. Gonna have more babies someday too. Working on something on the side, but that will always be my main family until the save won't work anymore.

If the save loads, I'll be playing it.

I really enjoy building big families. The change of pace from a childless couple to (gradually) eight or ten kids and maybe a spouse and grandkid or two is a lot of fun. That said, it's also fun when a bunch of them move out and things calm down a bit. Some of my households get so big that suddenly only having five or six sims can be a big relief. But I never want to move anyone out until they've completed whatever plans I had for them, because I'm not good at switching households and don't use nraas SP. Also, I play on normal lifespan, so the family grows and disperses in a relatively short amount of time.

I also use NRaas mods to play overstuffed households. I've played with 24 sims before, but my game performance suffers and I tend to get Error Code 12 with households that size. My current household is 18, which is a bit more than I like. I actually prefer 12-16 sims in a household. I play with free will on high, but I usually micromanage everything they do.

I like having large families even if it's overwhelming at times. Often than not I wish I had smaller households with only 2-4 sims but as soon as I have 8 or less sims in the house I feel like I'm missing something :lol:
I guess once you go past 8 sims there's not turning back :tongue:

Typically, I find playing with just one Sim not adventurous enough and I have a tendency to get bored easily. This is why at minimal I prefer at least two or more Sims. Large households are the most fun and entertaining because there is always something going on affecting multiple Sims that adds even more intriguing gameplay. With the open world, it makes the Sims even more aware of their surroundings and thus can interact and see things in an in-depth manner than TS/TS2/TS4.

I suppose I like to take advantage of this because I can see it happening more frequently with larger households. Word gets around and I notice some of my Sims start interacting differently as a result. For me, it's one of the best and realistic features to have been introduced to TS franchise.

So for example one of the full households I have are with 2 married young adults, 3 biological kids, 2 foster kids, 1 dog, 1 kitten and 1 large bird...yeah there's a lot going on and I like it that way. Aside from that, their marriage has its ups and downs and a part of that surrounds their mister and mistress (I wouldn't be surprised if the whole neighborhood knows that...it's not that much of a secret or their marital problems), one of the foster kids seems to have a crush on one of their sons (It seems like he really likes her too. It will interesting to see how that plays out when they age into teens), the foster kids still crave attention from their biological parents so I have them meet up as often as I can, the kids want to connect with one of their uncles that seems distant (I'm pretty sure they will figure out eventually that their their mother used to be in a relationship with him but was really after the oldest brother-their father, if they haven't found out already), still is a slow process when and if the parents are ever going settle once and for all their issues.

There's quite a lot of drama going on in the other households too. I can't wait to get back in-game eventually to find out what happens next. :smiley:

Yes a larger household can get overwhelming, but it can also be fun and challenging. Though I:ve realized that if I have more than four or so, plus pets, I tend to forget to make sure they interact with their pets unless the pet really needs attention. The only reason one family was allowed to have 3 pets is because their teenager is about ready to move out, and will be taking one of the pets with her. That will make things a bit easier again.
