Martial Arts Tournaments

I have a sim who is in the military and is studying martial arts. He is supposed to compete in a tournament for the military. How do I make that happen?  I don't know how I sign him up for a tournament?

  • the ranked sparring match is the tournament, without it it is just sparring. The tournament is portable. The sparring matches can be held anywhere, wherever you are when you click on the sim and select 'ranked sparring match', and the one before and after that is wherever you are when you challenge that other sim. It doesn't have to be at the academy, its just more scenic, in the mood, theme and as I said, easier to keep a lookout for when your opponent arrives after you call them, and is where many of the opponents already are.

I tell you what, some time today I will go in my game especially for you while I'm supposed to be studying for my Latin test, and I will take pictures of my sim going to China and doing the tournament and come back here tomorrow and post them ok.

Yesterday I thought I had a bunch of pictures in my memories about it, but I only found this one: https://www.thesims3.com/memory/memoryExchange.html?persona=DivinylsFan&sortField=created_at&sortOrder=ASC&position=3460&index=347 on that page with the memories in date order, my sim has a ranked sparring match, part of an opportunity at her work in the military. The police career also has it. However, my sim doesn't explain the details of how she got her opponent there and what she clicked on. I will do that overnight and post it tomorrow. Just for you.

  • bev6usa  Without mods, you'll need to send the sim to China to compete.

If you're willing to use mods, you'd need NRaas Careers, plus probably MasterController to give some local sims enough points in the martial arts skill to unlock the ability to take part in a ranked sparring match.

He's in China now. I do use mods but I don't understand what NRaas Careers and MasterController is. He's level 9 in Martial Arts

  • bev6usa  You don't need a mod then, at least not if everything is working properly.  On your sim's phone, select Call Sim and then something like "invite over next opponent."  That will invite over whichever sim your sim is supposed to fight next.  Challenge them to a ranked sparring match, beat them, and repeat as often as you like.

Your sim will need some space to be able to spar, so you may want them to go to the Martial Arts academy first, or perhaps somewhere in the Forbidden City where there's open space.

There is no real "tournament" in that there is no proper event.  Your sim just needs to keep winning matches until the opportunity is fulfilled.

I think what Puzzlez was meaning was that if you wanted to have the 'tournament' at home you'd need those mods. However, you went to China. My sims usually go to the Martial Arts Academy in China to do their tournament, because there's enough space there to pitch a tent when they get too tired and everything, plus a shower. I get them to bring snacks, like fruit/vegetables or the dried camping food morsels, plus plenty of skill books to read while waiting. There are a bench or two they can sit on in the open square deck area to read and/or wait. Also, it is a great vantage point to keep a lookout for the arriving competitor, and half of the time, they are already on the lot.

Once you identify and see the competitor sim, find a way to entice them to the deck/square and then ask them to "spar in a ranked match thingamy (cant remember)". You could go introduce yourself, then go to the square and call them over, or something like that. I remember writing the name of the sim down when I call the phone system and it says "such and such will be there/not" because when they were not arriving or had a reason why not, I could look them up via the Master Controller mod, or they might be in your phone, and zoom in on them wherever they are, and either go to them and fight them there, like at their home or whatnot, or realise they need help. Without Master Controller, you could leave the pop-up from them when they say they can't make it or that they're the next opponent whatever, and then when you need it, click on their face on the pop-up ... can't remember if it's regular or right-click on their face, but anyway that zooms in on where they are.

Your sim should bring their household friend or significant other as a source of social top-up and for running errands while keeping up the whole tournament to get it done.

He is supposed to compete in a Martial Arts Tournament not a ranked sparing match. How do I do that?

And by the way, if "challenge (such and such) to a ranked sparring match" doesn't come up in the pie menu of the other sim when you click on them, then they are not your next challenger in the tournament.
