What would be the advantage of using Nrass Traveler over just moving those student Sims into a house together and sending them all the University at the same time? That's truly not a criticism. It's me trying to understand how this all works.
1 - Traveler replaces the entire travel transition mechanism with one that looks just like EA's, but is far less prone to failures and sims getting stuck in foreign worlds unable to get back home (without reverting to a prior save before the trip out thus losing a week or two of gameplay and/or Uni progress).
2 - The mod also allows by option pregnant sims, those who have just returned home and are in a travel cooldown period, pets, and young sims down to babies to travel. Babies, toddlers, and pets must be accompanied by older human sims of course. It also allows teens to attend Uni to get a head start on their advanced studies while back home they are still in high school; I like to send them with older siblings and cousins, if they have any, and give them a very light course load the first time through when I do this just so they can have the experience.
But to answer the question really being asked, it's really a matter of player and sim convenience. If I have three households of 6 or even 12 or more sims each, getting the ones I want from those households to combine into the same one just so they can travel/enroll together and then return to a really overstuffed household (or making them buy a house of their own that they will later no longer need) so I can take it apart and put them back in their own homes again can be really disruptive. Even more so if these sims have partners, kids, pets by then who are staying behind and I don't really want to separate them from their families in any formal way. At the end of the day (term) though, you are right. All sims get to be controlled by the player and get an education, so we do end up with essentially the same results.
