Questions about the Legacy Challenge

I keep seeing this mentioned in these forums, but knew nothing about it. So I decided to learn. I pulled up this website:
https://www.simslegacychallenge.com/legacy-challenge-rules/sims-3-legacy-challenge-rules/
and read about it. I have some questions though...

So many methods of warding off Death are against the rules, yet nothing is mentioned about the Young Again potion obtained from the Chemistry Set ($3,250) or the Fountain of Youth Elixir obtained from the Alchemy Table. Both of those reduce the age to Young Adult. One requires foraging for ingredients and one does not. Also, it states that Vampires are allowed. They don't age.

My question is that if eating a life fruit is against the rules because it adds a few days to your life, why are the above means allowed when they are so much more powerful?

  • My personal opinion: don't take those rules so seriously. I think everything you can do in-game without cheats, should be allowed - including all ways of warding off death, prolonging sims' life spans etc. The only "holy" rule is the one about no cheating and no mods.

Apart from that, people vary a bit - some people always make their oldest the heir, while some make the oldest of the same sex as the original family founder, some wait and choose when the kids grow up, etc. This is meant to give you a kind of challenge yet make your game more fun - if you focus too much on the rules, you will forget to have fun.
  • I would guess that the rules were made before the Generations and Supernatural EP's came out, and when they were updated, the creator of the challenge forgot to update that part.
  • Pinstar is the creator. I think both him and his wife (ImaginingMystic) put together the challenge. It's my understanding they don't own all the packs.

Would it be considered cheating to use the Fountain of Youth Elixir on an heir?

The rules are written to not slow the progression of aging on your heirs/main household sims so the challenge doesn’t go on indefinitely. So I’d say no fountain of youth elixir/ young again potions.

I don't always follow every rule. I use mods no matter what challenge I'm doing. The challenge police haven't caught me yet. ;)
  • I'm the type that says. "Hang the rules". The only rule I followed was that I could only pick a townie to marry to my sim-self.

With the JAG Apoca-Legacy (Apocalypse Legacy) I'm not following ANY rules. The first generation involves SEVERAL couples...and whoever gets romantically involved gets romantically involved. It's a survival legacy...all moral values are out the window. Hello, NO JEALOUSY LTR.

Although I might not give Mac the "No Jealousy" LTR because well, gits and shiggles. :D
  • Oh man, I defintely don't follow the rules! Haha. Honestly, I just take the basic scenrio gist and run with it. I use mods, I cheat, I don't care. They only thing I don't cheat with is money. I used to use motherlode like it was going out of style but I decided it was much more fun finding new ways to earn money and to see how rich I get. I do pretty well!
  • A legacy can be considered a game where you carry on the family name for x amount of generations that you see fit. It's only a challenge if you make it one via a set of rules. :)

  • If you are not going to play by the rules then to eliminate confusion it would be better not to say you are playing the legacy challenge. You can play a legacy style game or a multi-genrational game (how I usually refer to that style of game).

I only played one legacy challenge but didn't last past the 5th generation. I don't really like rules and didn't particularly like having to keep up with all the scoring - points for portraits, etc. And since it is easy to make money once you get started that is no challenge. It did broaden my simming experience since before then I hadn't brought many townies into my household and I found some of the traits I had avoided before to be fun to play.

Instead of playing with a set of rules I prefer to play scenarios following guidelines.
