While; mother was busy writing on her book; dad and I decided to get one last father-daughter work out at the gym. When I was a teen, I was painfully shy and didn’t socialize much. That was until dad decided that one time a week, we go out to the movers and shakers gym and workout together.
“Listen here, old man; these muscles are gonna outshine you today.”
“Oh, is that so!! Well, lets put your dinner where your mouth is. If you get tired before me, you have to cook us dinner when we get back, and if I get tired before you, I’ll make us grilled cheese.”

“Alright. GAME ON. I want spinach and artichoke grilled cheese with provolone cheese.”
Dad’s laughter was always sincere and hardy. “Alright, but I’m just letting you know you are the one that will be cooking.”
I loved him so much; he has been my anchor when I was feeling sad. I’m going to miss him when I leave for college in the next few days.

The gym was busier than normal, but dad and I were lucky enough to find machines that were empty so we could work out next to each other.
“Hey, sweetie, I think I want a Sun-dried tomato grilled cheese.”
“Ha-Ha, you wish old man, I’m so totally winning over here.”
“Yeah, from where I sit, it looks like your getting distracted by all the boys that are standing around.”

Later as we got home from working out
“Well, well...well. It looks like you trained me well; because I believe I smell a Spinach and Artichoke Provolone Grilled Cheese cooking now.”
“Yeah, quit your bragging and go get changed; I'll have the grilled cheese ready when you come back down.”
I smiled at him before disappearing into the house.

When I came back downstairs, I had already had the table set for us to eat our sandwiches. Sometimes you know when you make one those memories that you will always remember, and this was one for the record books.
“Well, don’t ever tell your mother, but I think I like your grilled cheese sandwich recipe better than hers.”
