I think that was because I only remembered the lag and problems I’d had with TS3 and not the joy. Now I am rediscovering TS3 and having a wonderful time. It’s a great game for sure.
This worries me. I couldn't play the Sims 3 when it was the current game. My computer couldn't run it on a graphic standard that I wanted and I basically spent the last 11 years hating on it until recently. My mind has obviously been completely changed now that I can play it with the graphics on high. I'm only playing the base game currently but I am wanting to experience it all eventually and play with all the packs installed and a few mods, mostly the ones for smoother game play. Exactly how bad are the lag and stability issues of this game? I get so attached to my sims and it worries me a lot that I might suddenly loose them in a game error.
There can be bad lag at times but when that happens it usually means you need to do a little housekeeping. Keep inventories low. The less you have in Sims inventories the better. If you do a lot of gardening harvestables can build up fast and cause lag.
I once filled a lot with trees and other plants from build mode. They wave in the breeze. I had really packed them onto the lot. My sims could only take a step every 4 or 5 real life minutes. I removed most of the build mode plants and it was all running smoothly again.
I now use lots of mods and cc. Mods let me have more than 8 sims. Sometimes I get a bit carried away and end up with 20 or so sims in the household and that can make it a bit touchy. Not so much with lag but it encourages Error 12 if I save with the camera on the home lot.
Some worlds don't work well. Isla Paradiso is the worst of the EA worlds and Bridgeport can be bad at times too. There are fixed versions of these worlds available if you need them.
Depending on your graphics card you may not be able to play with super water and mirrors. The mirrors can give lag. Also in options there is a way to stop the game redrawing everything in a multi level building all the time. I can't remember what it is now, but it's a check box. If you check it you can reduce lag if you're getting lag. Also the number of fully rendered lots can slow it down if you have that too high. I tend to have it to maximum but it's the first thing I start to drag down if I'm starting to notice problems.
If you have a lot of puppies or kittens in the world some of them can get stuck as they don't use steps and Sims carry them around and leave them in odd places. Overwatch from NRAAS can clean up the game for you. Traffic from NRAAS is also good if your game is accumulating lots of cars. It deletes all the abandoned cars from around the world - this might be Overwatch that fixes the car problem I'm not too sure as I have both mods. NRAAS Traveller is good to have too if you have World Adventures.
There's plenty you can do and always someone who can offer suggestions if you're having problems.
Thanks for this. It's good to know anything I can do to keep my game running smooth.
