Recently started playing TS3 again..

I actually forgot how absolutely amazing this game is. The gameplay is phenomenal. The only thing I miss from TS4 is the graphics/CAS and some parts of build mode. The graphics for TS3 aren't great, but the gameplay makes it so worth it.

TS4 is incredibly boring and I literally only use it for creating sims and building homes.

So, I have pretty much all the EP's for TS3, but I don't have ambitions or Into the Future. Would you recommend either of these?
Also, I'm having trouble using CC in TS3. Whenever I have the mods folder in My Documents / Electronic arts etc. it is giving me an error message and won't let me open the game, does anyone know why this is? (I'm also a mac user)

I agree with ya, I find TS4 lacking.Though I do wish TS3 had restaurants to dine out at and mutli-tasking, but still love TS3 better.Out of those two, I like Ambitions better, I love the careers you can play.

TS3 can have open restaurants even though the content is only provided by store content. The point is, the optional gameplay is there regardless if someone chooses to own it or not. Unfortunately, something like that should come with either the base game or at the very least a well thought EP. But I won't complain much as thankfully they did include something than nothing at all.

With mods, it helps to enhance the versatility of the store content. Though I wish the content was more than it was but close enough.

Multi-tasking? I still don't understand where some are getting the notion that TS3 does not have this. No offense, but it's like some don't even know the definition of the word or else they would know. Especially, having played a previous iteration. It seems some don't really pay attention and I can see why it is so easy for marketing to get some to believe whatever they tell them. There has always been multi-tasking since the very first The Sims (2000). Just that as later installments were introduced, there were improvements and added actions that could be done at the same time.

3 actions all at the same time.
    -Socializing
    -Listening to music
    -Dancing to the music

There are many examples in not only TS3 but in TS2 as well. TS4 is not as special as they make it out to sound but the observant can pick up quick on that and see the game's true colors. I guess everyone else is either intentionally blind or just ignorantly blind.

"some people don't understand the meaning" little insulting there, just because you disagree with my post.Secondly, your examples of multi-tasking differ from mine, what I meant was being able to drink and eat meals at the same time, my sms 3 game does not allow me to do that, at least for me, my sim can't cook and chat at the same time in sims 3.Unless my game is completely glitched.Already knew that you could listen to music, socialize and such.I should reword my post and say I like the new "multi-tasking" in the sims 4.Don't get me wrong, TS3 is waaay better. In fact I uninstalled Sims 4 and am currently playing sims 3.I just miss some features of the sims 4.Like I miss some features of Sims 2, such as sims placing plates of food down, cars backing out of driveways.I like content from each game.Never played 1 so I can't comment on that.

As for the restaurant set, I own it.And it looks nothing like your photos, I assume you use mods.My restaurant content does not have waiters, instead the chef does it all. However, my chef doesn't even stay, they'll leave and go home, and my sims never get their food. And everyday I get the notice 'So and So couldn't make it for their shift" gave up on that content, as much as I wanted to like it.

I'm not quite sure if the content itself is what is broken or the game code as to how role Sims are handled. Either way, yes it is a big issue unfortunately. Especially, having paid money for something that doesn't work like it should. I also have that issue but I use Ani's mod to help with that. http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Business+As+Unusual+Bistro

Interesting, didn't know there was a mod.Thanks.One thing I don't miss though from TS4 is that darn musical chairs, ugh that really irks me lol.

May I ask what you have for a Mac? Which model (year, processor, RAM, graphics card, drive space used vs. free) -- most of this can be found on About This Mac under the Apple Menu.

@igazor thank you so much for your insight. I'm not tech savvy so this is great information.
This is the info under About This Mac -
    Year - Late 2012,
    Processor - 2.5ghz Intel Core i5,
    Memory - 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3,
Graphics - Intel HD graphics 4000 1536 MB,
Drive Space (I think this is it) - Macintosh HD 88.84 available of 249.77, 251 GB flash storage... I don't use my laptop for much so I must figure out how to clear up some of that!
  • @dancingindior - Thanks, that's helpful. This must be a MacBook (Pro) or a Mac Mini? And yeah, you're already at 8 GB of RAM so adding more is not likely to impact the game's performance much.

Not really a viable candidate for Bootcamping Windows onto it either as the integrated Intel graphics chip would follow you over to the Windows side holding things back and you don't really have enough total hard drive space to manage two distinct partitions, one for OS X and one for Windows.

So your choices are to work with Bluebellflora's techniques to get the most performance that you can out of TS3 for Mac or, as you already suspected, find a different computer on which to play the Windows version of the game if/when things get too restrictive here.

The whole of it. "No offense, but it's like some don't even know the definition of the word or else they would know." I'm speaking what I notice in general. If you take that to be insulting, I can't help that.

Like I stated, with each new Sims game there is some improvement and actions added on to the multi-task list. Personally, TS4 is so weak of a game none of the little improvements/advancements matter since there is not any major worthwhile features. Everything else is same old, same old and just confines players to the developers rules of play. The Sims was always about giving players the control.

Anyway, it doesn't matter which game you like better. That has nothing to do with me. Apparently, it's a pet peeve when some have misconceptions and I sometimes like to correct it.

Edit: If you are interested, there's also a mod for setting the table. Sidenote: While mods are great, I don't condone the developers lack of workmanship and versatility for some things.

  • Thank you @igazor . Yes, it is a MacBook Pro. I should have mentioned!
It is working relatively okay for now, better than it used to, surprisingly. I think I'll consider a gaming/higher end laptop in future so hopefully I can run more EP's etc.
  • To chime in about the OP's comment on sims 3 graphics not being that great. I have to disagree, although a lot of this comes from computer specs. I have, what I consider is a mid to lower range gaming desktop. In my opinion sims 3 graphics are the best. ;)
