Roof help, please

Hi,
I'm fairly new to Sims 3 building and have a question.  I've made one side of a pre-existing house a little bigger so that the rooms on that side have more room.  Also adjusted the second floor to match.  However, the problem comes with the roof.  Instead of a gabled or hipped roof it has two layers of floor tiles.  I managed to copy the floor tile to cover the extra space, but it only did one layer.  When I tried placing it for the second layer it just replaced what I'd done.  Could someone please let me know how to add a floor tile on top of a floor tile?  Thanks so much!
  • Thanks  HotBlackSand for your suggestions & help.  Couldn't figure out how to extend the platform so just deleted the thing & placed a new one.  Hadn't even thought of it being a platform as the sledgehammer only removed a single tile of the platform.  Thanks for your help also puzzlezaddict! You both were great 😀.  Anyway, here's how the roof turned out:

  • djsboonie  Could you post a couple of screenshots, and list the house you're working on?  It would help to be able to see what you're working with, and perhaps  experiment on it a bit.

Hi puzzlezaddict my sim is living in the Simple Decadence house (40x40) in Roaring Heights. I expanded the wall on the kitchen side by two tiles so the rooms on both floors were larger. Had no problem with that but when I went to adjust the roof to extend over the opening I couldn't. After some poking around I figured out they'd used floor tiles. Used the eyedropper to copy a tile & was able to place them over the open area but then discovered there were two layers. Tried copying again but it didn't put the tile on top, but it didn't work. Anyway, here's a screenshot of the roof showing the area I was able to place the first layer compared to the rest of the roof. Thanks for your help 😀.

  • djsboonie... The original roof in the picture, looks to be a platform, and is raised above the actual 'floor level'. To expand that, when you copy the platform, copy the white edge and not the surface. Then extend the platform to the required distance of the remodel. You may have to copy the surface of the platform and apply like flooring to the surface of what you have added.

That's the best I can tell from the picture and trying to piece together what is going on with that roof ... Happy Simming ... 😆
