Sims Wishes and Wants

My sims rarely, if ever, go on dates but I have found that they usually roll a wish to propose marriage shortly after the Engaged moodlet wears off although it does come before that for some, particularly Hopeless Romantics or Family Oriented sims.

Many things you choose for your sims will trigger wish chains. Fishing is great for generating wishes that can lead to large valued wishes like "Catch every type of fish" (only needs 20 different fish to complete) and is worth around 7,000 LTH and even more for Anglers. There is also a wish to catch a fish weighing 1,000kg that is worth, from memory, around 10,000 LTH.
Other hobbies like painting, sculpting, gardening will generate a lot of wishes.
Traits will also dictate the kinds of wishes sims roll.
I don't know what you like your sims to do but whatever it is they will roll wishes once they start gaining skill or having performed certain actions.

There are definitely preset triggers for many wishes, especially those having to do with skills. For example, with the fishing wishes @Mikezumi mentioned, one chain is: reach level 4ish > catch a new type of fish > catch 5 new types of fish > catch every type of fish. Catching a 1,000 kg fish is the last step in a chain that starts with a 10 or 20 kg fish, although those don't trigger as reliably, at least for me. The athletic skill has: reach level 3 or 4 > work out for 4 hours straight >> work out for 6, 8, 10, 12 hours straight, with each new one triggering about 20 in-game minutes worth of working out after the last one has been completed. Most of the self-employment careers have a reliable "make x simoleons from " chain; most of the skills that involve creating something have "create worth x simoleons" chains. The list goes on and on.

A lot of the wishes have multiple triggers though, in case you miss one. My angler sims sometimes roll the wish to catch every type of fish, for the second time, after they've hit level 10 and have already caught all types. The wish to master cooking usually rolls at level 8 plus a couple of meals cooked, but also after they "learn every recipe" (only 28, as per the original base game total), which itself triggers at or just after they hit level 9.

As for the romantic wishes, they've always been hit or miss for me. Family-oriented sims definitely tend to have more of them—if I start with an engaged couple, the FO sim will usually roll a wish to marry soon into the first romantic sequence, then to have a first child and to have a child with their new spouse within a day of getting married. Since I have them marry right away for the 2-day +50 moodlet, they get a jump on LTH points right away too.

Both of them usually get a wish to have their first woohoo with each other as soon as they exchange rings. But I almost never get that with sims I've played longer. Although that might have something to do with how... let's go with "experienced"... most of my played sims are by the time they settle down.

Hi! Concerning romantic wants or wishes, I have found just having Sims who are in a relationship just talk to each other with some frequency is enough to cause the romantic interactions to appear. However, this could just be in my game.

A lot of the wishes sims roll are just plain ridiculous because they are overdone. Like the wish to have pillow fights, which my sims started to roll every time they made a new friend after installing Generations. Really? How many people do you know that you would want to pillow fight with? Sure, there could be something wrong with me, but I don't believe I have wanted to pillow fight (now or in my youth) with anyone! Another wish that really annoys me is the wish to buy an indoor planter which is rolled by every member of the family, regardless of whether they garden, which I believe started after I installed Supernatural recently.

Let your sims' actions guide you, rather than their wishes. Sure, seeing some wishes gives us warm fuzzies and "validates" the relationships we put our sims in but, when all is said and done, a sim will tell you by their actions if they actually want to be close to another sim. I see wishes merely as suggestions as to what you could do next with your sim, especially for those new to the game and have no idea what's available or what can be done.

It also occurs to me that wish chains will be broken upon changing active sims. The romance wish chain that your sim started when she was first active would have been reset by changing active sims.

I use an auto romance mod that allows my sims to ask to go steady and propose marriage on their own. I prefer not to direct my sims' love lives and leave it up to them. I used to use a different version of that mod that allowed sims to marry on their own but I got sick of getting popups that my sims had married and finding them in places where I couldn't get a decent pic! I also found it frustrating that many of my teen sims would marry their boyfriends/girlfriends and I would find myself looking at the move-in window and end up with a house overrun with teens! :confounded:

Interesting, I didn't know there was such a mod. Though I am quite happy directing my sims or ask to go steady or propose etc. I normally give them a few days to see if a wish pops up and if it doesn't I do it anyway. I also don't use any mods that allow teen to marry or get pregnant, not that I am against it just I am happy with the way it is for my games. I tend to use the teen 'years' to make friends and get a good basic set of skills.

I don't allow teen pregnancy in my game - I already have way too many kids per family to want that! I do allow them to have boyfriends/girlfriends, though, and just underestimated the effectiveness of the mod which is why I got the toned down version! :D I also use the teen years for skilling and making friends.

I agree with Mikezumi in that a Sims action will tell what they want and switching households will break player guidance, if it is not in line with what the Sims want. Also note, that some actions are guided (forced) by story progression, EA's version is known to stomp all over player efforts after they make a household inactive; it doesn't care about what the Sim wants it just fulfills a mathematical equation with no rhyme or reason.

However, if both you and your Simmie want the same thing, they will continue on that path whether you are there to guide them or not. They will continue trying even if SP has created obstacles for them (other than killing one of them).

There's also the little known fact, although Sims are all digital beings, they do not operate at the same 'speed' if you will. Some Sims are slow learners, while others are quick to pick things up. It all depends on the Sim and we have no control over that aspect of them.

A slower set Sim will appear to move in a way which can appear to be uninterested, cautious or just plain slow. When coupled with the 'wish triggering system' of the game, it can give the illusion things have slowed down for a Sim who was only a short time ago gun-ho for the romance. This isn't the case at all. It just takes a slower set Sim a longer amount of time to process information and make decisions which will affect their lives and their wants for self. Rosalie may just be considering all aspects of her relationship to develop a feel for if this is truly an acceptable fit for her.

OMG, yes! Preach! I only go for Wishes that IK are easy to accomplish (aside from the Pillow Fights). Otherwise, I already have a plan, in what I'm doing with my Sims Games. The Wishes are just Side Quests, IMO.
