Sold all my life fruit...

So my 1st gen master gardener somehow had gotten a life fruit seed and got the plant to perfect. Somewhere along the line, I must have used/sold all the fruit. Now the family is life fruit-less. From what I've read, there are "secret special seed" locations around each town. I don't want to go get that special ax and dig around France to find a seed. What are my other options (no cheating)?
  • How about the Collection Helper LTR? It's a device that goes in your sim's personal inventory and allows you to see where objects like this are on the Map View screen. You could also look for life fruit at the Consignment Store and the produce carts from the Al Fresco Market/Monte Vista if you have those, some may show up once in a while.

You can often find special seeds (with some being Life Fruit) around city graveyards and on mausoleum visits. But you'll probably need a high level gardener to identify or plant the seed.

Players have uploaded community garden lots with every plant already available. You could download one of those and just pick the fruit--if you don't consider that cheating. Here's one 15x10 lot: Eden.

Ooooo. Graveyards! I’ll check them out. I am also getting special seeds dropping in the yard (I think from my 10 money trees). They are mostly money tree seeds but I just got a banana tree seed. Maybe I’ll get lucky that way too!
  • Depending on what expansions you have, it may show up at the elixer consignment store as well!

Don't forget, you can Identify Seeds with the SwiftGro Gardening Station. :)

edit: Adding to what Mikezumi said below... If your sim already has a SwiftGro Gardening Station on the lot, that's probably where the seeds are coming from. It generates a spawner when placed.
  • @Rhiannon58 I am pretty sure that money trees only drop one seed when they become perfect quality (but I could be wrong). There might be a seed spawner on your lot if you got a banana tree seed.
  • If you don't have the Swift-Gro gardening station, you can still distinguish among special seeds by their value when you try to sell them. Death flower and money tree seeds are worth §0, and unlike other seeds, they don't glow on the ground when the Collection Helper is active. Life fruit and flame fruit seeds have the same price as a harvestable of equal quality. So a §75 unknown special seed will be an outstanding life fruit plant when mature, or perfect if your sim has the Super Green Thumb LTR and bumps up the quality by one level.

And @Mikezumi is correct, money trees will each spawn one normal money tree seed after they turn perfect. Specifically, an outstanding tree becomes perfect after the second time you harvest it. Then the second time the now perfect tree becomes harvestable again (at or just after 5 am), it will also throw the seed somewhere nearby.

Also, if you just feel like cheating, MasterController will tell you where the life fruit seeds are. Click on the ground out in the world (not on a lot or MC will only search that lot), NRaas > MC > Object Info > Not Inventory to bring up a list of objects, including each kind of special seed. If you select the seeds you want, you'll get a page for each one; click on the thumbnail to center on the seed.

Have you tried looking around the science centers? Special seeds spawn there as well.

Thanks everyone for all the excellent information. Yes I have the gardening station so it's been spawning seeds on my lawn. And I have lost count of how many money tree seeds still to be planted. I think I'm going to have to double my greenhouse to accommodate everything (my current heir has been to France twice to make sure we have everything we need to get going on wine making so we are growing grapes like crazy). I did find that LTR of collection helper (AWESOME) and have sent my senior heir and master gardener on two runs so far to find seeds. She has found a few plants we haven't had before but so far no life fruit. But she has a few good years left so I'm sure she will eventually stumble upon one!

Do the seeds respawn once you've picked them up? If so, are they random or the same type seed?

Yes, each spawner will continue to spawn new seeds throughout the game. There are several different seed spawners, each spawning a different combination of seed types. Where you find a common seed, the next time you might find a different common seed, or an unknown uncommon or rare seed. Special seeds only come from special seed spawners, which can also spawn uncommon or rare seeds, and even a few kinds of known common seeds. But once you find an unknown special seed, that's a location you should check often for more.

In my current save, it took a long time for my sim to find an unknown flame fruit seed from her Swift Grow station. She kept getting life fruit, plasma fruit, and money tree seeds, and even a couple of death flower seeds, but no flame fruit. I think it was 6 or 7 sim weeks after she first planted her garden before she finally got a flame fruit seed.

You can use the Swift Grow station to identify unknown seeds, but never, ever try that with multiple unknown seeds in your sim's inventory, because the seeds will disappear after they're identified, as soon as you try to actually plant them, if I'm remembering correctly. I've never had any issues since I've been making sure to only have one unidentified seed in my sims' inventory when they identify them.
