I've been trying to rename my Sims 3 folder and then relaunch the game for it to recreate a new one to try to work out some bugs I have.I am unable to rename it or move it.I get a box that says: "Folder in Use. The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again."I don't have anything open. I turned off my computer and turned it back on again to close anything that might be open in the background and then tried it again. I just keep getting that message.Any idea what that is or how I can fix it? I can't get rid of the folder to generate a new one.Any advice is appreciated.Thanks :)

Hi MyameeGirl,Sounds like some (or more) programs are starting up with windows using the Sims3 files. Other than that it might have to do with administrator issues. I would first like you to try these steps:In the Windows menu, go to the search bar and type: msconfig A new window will open. On the second last tab of this window, you will find you're startup programs. Basicly: all of these, except your antivirus program, can be shut off. As well for the middle tab (services) Check the box below to hide all Microsoft services. Then you get a list of what services are running. Again: all but the antivirus can be closed. If you have any software running to clean you're pc like: Glarysoft, advanced system care or tuneup, then it is adviced not to shut them down either. Whenever you doubt: just ask and state the name of the program. I will be happy to help you out! After shutting down these programs, you click apply and oke. the system will want to restart. This is a must. After restart you will get a message about changes. Just check the box to not show again and click oke.If they don't work, please let me know. We will adjust the administrator settings after that

Do you have any anti malware or any clean up programs installed? If so: leave them checked as well. If not: uncheck everything except all that has to do with your antivirus. Note: This can be more than one box. To make sure: expand the list where the installation path is mentioned and see if it has anything to do with your antivirus.

And then yes: apply and restart :wink:

I restarted and tried to rename the folder, but am still unable to do it.The ones I left unchecked I wasn't sure about, so here's a list of what they are. If it's okay, I'll uncheck them as well and restart again.Here's the list:Intel(R) Common user interface (there's three of them with that name).Intel Management & SecurityNvidia Display Driver ServiceNvidia Update something... can't remember the full name.Is it okay to uncheck these?If so, I will do that and try it again, as all that will be left is my antivirus checked in those lists.Thanks.

Also, do I go back and recheck all the startup stuff I unchecked when I went into msconfig?

use the administrator one, since it is the same as the user you created.

And I see no reason to go back on msconfig other then unchecking the four you mentioned which can still be unchecked. This won't solve the issue but will save on RAM usage.

#Edit# I see you already chose ownership to your own user. Now did you restart and see if it solved the issue?

I just spent about 45 minutes hitting enter to continue going through all the errors while changing the permissions and then a window came up saying that if I choose to stop... something about instability. I didn't cancel it. Then when I hit okay, it shut down the window and left me at the main window where I was to change the permissions. I dont think it was done changing all the permission yet though. Do I have to do all that again??

It was in the Norton section of the C:/Program Files. It already went through C:/Program Files (x86)

I tried to change the name of the folder again just now and it still says I can't becuase it's in use.

Very frustrating.

Please let me know if I have to go through that 45 minutes of pressing continue again.
