I see what what you mean bout the quotes thing for new members.
When I said that I meant how its like two similar games from different programming companies, for example the different farming games, except it was made by the same company and is different enough from the Sims 3 to make it interesting.
I can tell you about some of the features I like about it so you can make up you own mind if you might like it as well. :D
========
*At first I was afraid I wouldn't be able to play Sims 4 as often as I do Sims 3 because you had to initiate it on line and thought it had to be played online like Sim City 4 when it first came out. I was relieved when I found that once it was installed I could play of-line if I wanted. Which is great for me, because I have a limited amount of Inet per month and would have eaten it up in the first few days of playing.
*The screen set-up is great. Having the different menus split up into different sections over the screen and shrunk down to minimal while your playing or you can choose to have a few up and leave the rest down.
-The Needs button tells you their most urgent need even when its down then all you have to do is pull up that menu and click the icon to have them find the closest object to fill that need. A really helpful feature when your out exploring a new "neighbourhood" and have no idea where the closest bathroom is.
* The new building and CAS modes are a given.
-I especially like how build and buy mode are combined. You can sort buy items like in the Sims 3 by room or like items or use the new search feature to find a particular item. Building of the houses is very easy with all of the new features and being able to move rooms or even the entire house is something every simmer wishes they could do in Sim 3. Of course you can save your favourite houses to your library. You can even save your favourite rooms to your library sepertately. And of course you can put together a house from the mix and match pre-made rooms if you want.
-In CAS its the ability to adjust almost anything on you Sim's body to create a truly unique Sim. Granted there are only a few different colour choices for each outfit and you can't change anything like you could with Sims 3, which is a negative, but the different pieces fit together more smoothly and you can create all sorts of different looks by combining different pieces together. I especially like the fact that if you use the up arrow above each type of outfit (everyday etc) you can plan up to 5 outfits with matching hairstyles and make-up. Then in the game the Sim changes between them on their own, so they're not forever in the same outfit. If you get tired of the same 5 outfits, you can go to the wardrobe or dresser and "plan" some new ones.
*The new world set-up can take a bit of getting used to. Travelling between neighbourhoods is a breeze, the loading screens don't take long at all. I like the fact that each of them comes with their own mini community meeting place and collectible spawners. Your sim can meet most of their needs and goals without leaving their residential "neighbourhood" if they want. Their is always someone roaming around, even in the early ours of the morning for a lone Sim to befriend. :D
*The Sims
-As I said before there is always a goal to be aiming for in your Sims wishes, Employment and Aspirations as well as making sure their needs are met. I started with one Sim and I was battling to keep up with what she wanted and need to get done.
-I love the fact that your Sims can do multiple things at a time. My favourites combos are having my Sim read skill book/listen to music at home and Workout/watch Cooking Channel/Chat at the gym.
-I've watched a few Youtubes and read comments that people are not happy that they can no longer see bars that tell them how long things take. I've found that if you look at the icon in the line up you can see a green line going around the outside when your sim is doing some things. (I noticed it when I was fixing something). This will tell you about how far along your sim is in the process.
-I'm with a lot of the other Simmers, in that I don't like the fact they skipped the toddler stage. But I love the new look of the baby. They're bought about in the usual manner. Again I've found comments about how you can't tell how far along the mother is. If you click on the pregnancy moodlet it will tell you in what trimester she is. If you see "???" it means she could give birth any time that day. Make sure you have a bassinet ready. I played with the "original" method of getting a baby in my first few attempts at running a family. The Final attempt I adopted a baby using the computer ($1,000). Baby sitters no longer exist in the game. I think their replaced by daycare when all adults are off the lot. My sim was home for the few days before baby aged up, but when she "disappeared" to go adopt her, I got a message that baby was back from daycare when my sim arrived home again. You can travel around your home neighbourhood if you like but don't leave baby alone for to long. Yes its a bummer that baby is attached to the bassinet not allowing your sim to take them any where and you can't tell what it is he/she needs when she cries (they just turn blue if their is something wrong, although you can tell when diaper needs changing causes of the green fumes). I do like how you have a few more options for what you can do with them though.
-Children have their own goals to achieve as well, with their own Aspirations(to meet these you have to build skills) which match up to 4 of the adult ones, which goes along with my theory of teaching children young to make it easier for them to climb their career ladders.
_You can change your sims aspiration any time you want. Just click on the star in that menu to pick another one.
I've only been playing for a little while but these are a few of the main things I have noticed. I hope it helps you decide :D
Happy Simming
Roo
Edit: I almost forgot the one of the most important new features!!!
The different emotions your sims go through naturally can have a big effect on how the react to things. And the other sims in the neighbourhoods will all be feeling differently too. Trying to befriend someone in an angry mood can be interesting.
You can use your sims mood to enhance your skill building. You can also use different items to bring on a particular mood (e.g. taking a "steamy Shower" gets your Sim in a flirty mood and ready to ... you know) The plumbs you get as a reward for owning Expansions Packs for Sims 3 are very helpful for this. (NB: if you have several different plumbs in the one room they may cancel each other out so you need to turn them on and off as the need arises) If you invite a Sim over and are using plumbs around your house, they take on the indented mood too, Just a helpful tip if you want them in a particular mood for ......... ;)
