The Legacy Challenge Rules

I have been reading through the rules and I do have a question...upon my people getting married I checked my mailbox to see that I had a lot of gifts from friends cey lebrating their marriage and one of the gifts I would never use on my lot, I forget the name of the item but its one of those giant fountains that are in front of businesses and stuff and its worth 50,000 simoleons...Everyone else gave paintings which I put up in my house. I feel like, especially since this is my first generation and they only have about 6,000 dollars right now, that selling the fountain and getting 50,000 would be almost cheating since the first generation should be poor. So, would you sell it or should I just leave it in the family inventory?
