The Sims 3 on Windows 10

Finally had to upgrade to Windows 10 when my motherboard died and had to be replaced. The game seems to play okay on 10 though I have noticed some minor problems with the launcher and wonder if there is anything I can do to tweak it.
I usually "save as" after I've finished playing then "quit". Now, over half the time the launcher will crash on exiting. Since I've saved, it doesn't affect the save but it's annoying. Also, sometimes I "accidentally" record a video I don't want but if I try to delete it on the launcher it crashes the launcher.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you need to use the Launcher to start the game? I bypass it and start the game directly by its .exe

To delete videos you just go to the The Sims 3/Recorded Videos folder and delete them there.

I never updated to patch 1.69, thank goodness.

  • You can skip the Launcher when you're on patch 1.67. Lots of players, like myself, prefer to stay at patch 1.67.

ZeeGee quote: "you have to have a pre-2012 base game disc to stay on 1.67, the one with all the diamonds on the cover. The newer ones will force you to patch to 1.69. (source)"

The only way to get back to patch 1.67 is to uninstall the whole game, reinstall the base game, manual install patch 1.67 (don't open the launcher because then it probably wants to update) before you install the rest of your packs in order of release. Once all installed you can uncheck the option in the Launcher to update.

More information and a link to the patches:

Never mind, I just missed your latest response @nickibitsward (I was busy typing this up). ;)

I've always used the launcher but I'll give it a try the other way. It launches fine it just doesn't quit fine but I can live with it. I'll look for the videos in that folder.

    Thank you.

Yeah, the Launcher must have some bugs. It almost always crashes when I try to use its functions.
