First off I apologize for the novel. I really did trim a lot out of what I originally wrote but it's still very long.
Well it looks like I'm getting the game after all. My family got together and pre-ordered the Premium edition for my birthday. Someone spilled the beans so I wouldn't order it for myself too. lol I was planning on getting it eventually, not until closer to Christmas, but I never look a gift horse in the mouth! :p
I've been watching a few videos from those that have been able to play the game and while I really will miss toddlers the rest does intrigue me. I'm looking forward to a different version of a beloved series. With different aspects and a different approach to the game.
With TS2 it was all about building for me, mainly because I totally sucked at keeping sims happy if I had more than 3 on the lot. Ts3 started out that same way but in the last three years most of the time that I have been able to squeeze in for play has been about the sims themselves. The Random Legacy Challenge really helped me dig into the game and try different careers and traits that I wouldn't normally play, and there is still much more I intend to explore. I'm currently working on a legacy style challenge that will take me through all careers and all traits. Basically it starts out with only a handful of 'unlocked' careers (the self-employed ones) and to unlock other careers, maxed skill and maxed career levels are required, as well as buying the corresponding rabbit hole or community lot. I don't intend to publish my rules since it is too much based on combining 3 different legacy styled challenges, it's just something for me, to push me out of my comfort zone a bit more and push me into deeper game play.
I'm going to look at the Sims 4 as a new game and not an extension of the last 3. I understand that most want the same things added in TS4 that we came to love in the last 3, don't get me wrong I do as well, but I also want something different that defines it as a different game. I'm not looking for a game to replace the last two, but a game to add to my played games. The world set up and the loading screens don't bother me much at all. I didn't mind them in TS2 either. I personally don't want a repeat of TS3, I've come to enjoy it as it is and hope to continue to enjoy it for years to come. I still play Sims Medieval, because I love the look of the world and the costumes. It's a different game with a different approach and that's what I enjoy about it. Similar yes, but different too. I am intrigued by the emotions and how different things impact how your sims feel. I saw a video done by a simmer from England. It showed a sim in labor, she could still complete tasks and interact with other sims. It also showed how families interacted and how sims multitasked. After the baby was born it showed the emotions of the younger child and how she was sad about having a new baby in the house. There were a number of reactions, and interactions she could do to to improver her mood. The teen son asked his dad about woohoo and the discussion and reaction was hilarious! It also showed one of the parks and some of the romantic interactions between two teens. As well as the reaction of sims around them. This teen was flirting with Cassandra Goth, and Mortimer runs up and seems to cheer them on, then runs off. The bassinet is definitely a step backwards imo but it was still cute. There were still a number of interactions between sims and the baby, they just happen at the bassinet instead of them wandering off with the babe.
I also understand those that are disappointed in what has been left out. Three years ago the lack of CAST and a color wheel would have been a big deal to me, and I appreciate that many builders and sim creators will sorely feel the lack of these tools. If my main way of entertainment was building and creating as it was in the past I would be really ticked off as well. The CAST gave everyone the ability to add a totally personal touch to the game that we didn't have with Ts1 or 2. While I'm baffled by their decision to not include this in the game I'm also fine with adding custom content created by our wonderful modding community to enhance the look of my game. I already have my eye on a number of beautiful clothing options already created by simmers before the game is even released.
