- Maybe its just me but I just have no desire to go back and play the older sims (1-3) I am not saying 4 is the best but I just get used to one system and at this point if I play a different Sims I want it to be because they released 5.
- cb2342z5 years agoSeasoned AceI think it would run a lot better. I have a refurbished Dell Optiplex 7010 as an interim desktop. With a 3rd gen i7 and 16GB of RAM, it should run TS3 very well. But, it doesn't since we can only use 2 GB of RAM. Even cheap "budget-oriented" $300 laptops have more RAM than that! I won't buy any computer with less than 8GB of RAM. I have a Toshiba Satellite with a Pentium and 4GB of RAM I use less than once or twice a year (backup PC in case another bites the dust), and it's a paperweight. SO SLOW! And it was that way when it was still my main laptop before getting replaced with a laptop with i7/8GB of RAM.

That hasn't been true on Windows since Patch 1.17 was released in 2010, thus making TS3 Large Address Aware (LAA). Only the now older 32-bit Mac version kept the 2 GB cap.
The game on Windows will reach for up to just short of 4 GB, if and when it "thinks" it needs it and if the physical RAM is available. Resource overload and Error12s happen when usage approaches ~3.5 GB, this varies for different players, with 3.7 GB being absolute most the game can work with. A strong enough dedicated graphics card helps to offload a lot of the memory usage and is at least expected to improve game performance dramatically over integrated graphics.
Going 64-bit doesn't make the game call for more RAM earlier unless the game's programming is changed/remastered to take advantage of the increased capacity. On the new Mac version, I haven't played a world that is complex enough yet to require more than the 1.5 GB or so that it's currently asking for but stress testing will soon change that once I get finished adding all my content into it.- The Sims 3 is Old And not better than the wsims 4 who has 64 Bits Support (Formerly has 32 bits support but has dropped)

Highly suggest you don't open that door. You're going to start a war. "Nikkei_Simmer;c-17718125" wrote:

Hahahahaha :D- i used to absolutely love ts3, but it unfortunately got to the point where i could hardly run it. having it in 64-bit and being able to try it again after all these years would be so nice...
- Question;
If I get the 64 bit Sims 3 would I still be able to use my old save file? Can I still pick up where I left off in my game by saving my save file and backups and then adding it to the new 64 bit version of Sims 3?
Plus will any world I create with CAW still work with the 64 bit Sims 3?
Update;
Oops! Never mind! Just realized that the 64 bit Sims version is only for Mac users and not for Windows. Oh well. - SamXNE_9975 years agoSeasoned Ace

Tell me you didn't just say that. - Burnziie5 years agoSeasoned AceI have a huge feeling it'd be essential. Last I tried it my computer which could keep stable 60s on modern games could hardly run TS3 without major simulation-lag + long loadtimes even with all the essential mods.
I really want to go back to TS3 but I can't because of the lag, and a nice 64bit upgrade might do wonders.
