The Sims 1 & 2 Get Modern Updates and a Re-Release, But Sims 3 Gets Nothing
So EA updates The Sims 1 and 2 to run on modern hardware, fixes bugs, and now re-releases them for $30 (plus a Sims 4 kit, because of course they had to throw that in). Meanwhile, The Sims 3 one of the most beloved yet notoriously unstable games in the franchise gets a single Alder Lake patch and is otherwise abandoned. They’re putting in the effort to make their oldest games playable on Windows 10/11, but they can’t be bothered to fix Sims 3’s memory issues, stuttering, or overall performance? We’re still forced to rely on mods and external fixes just to get the game to run properly, and they still sell it at full price on EA App/Steam without any real support. It’s frustrating seeing EA put effort into these re-releases while Sims 3 arguably their most ambitious game is left to rot. If they can fix up The Sims 1 and 2, why can’t they do the same for Sims 3?179Views3likes8CommentsSims 3 Being Robbed Bug
I have an issue with my game due to a robber escaping but police wont leave also my burglar alarm will now not turn off (inside house). That now means I can't build/buy due to currently being robbed or sleep due to the alarm. Side note I tested cheats and deleted alarm (solves alarm noise for sleep problem) deleted Police officer and phoned police service (told robber has escaped but still get message cannot bulid/buy while being robbed) cant move to new house or private lot also. If anyone can help fix this let me know thanks.13Views0likes0CommentsSims 3 update, Jan 13, 2025: discussion thread
Edit: Since we now have two threads about this patch, one originally on this forum and one migrated from Answers HQ, I wanted one to convert to a general discussion thread and one to cover technical issues. So this is now the discussion and general questions thread. EA released a very minor update for Sims 3 today. It's only for Windows and only for the EA App version. It fixes the Alder Lake issue, where the game wouldn't start correctly on some newer Intel processors. There are no other changes. Edit: Because the game's internal build number has changed, core mods may throw an error or force the game to minimize at launch. ErrorTrap has already been updated to account for this (link). For the few other core mods in existence, there is no actual harm in playing through this, as the update hasn't affected the game core. If you see an activation window, simply click Exit and launch the game again. It should work this time around.2KViews11likes30CommentsMissing Studio Content
Recently I was looking for an older build in my studio when I noticed that it was absent, along with many other uploads. Most of them were older builds, however some were within the last 2 years. I know what I have deleted. I had some computer problems where I had to completely re-install and so I uploaded them as safeguards. I have 2 now, one with store content and the other without, but that is another story I won't go into. 🤬The team on Cape Albacore remembers this, I am sure. lol. Has anyone else noticed this has happened to them? I am sure this is recent; I would guess within the last 3 months as I often poke around in my studio seeing what I can improve or to Dl to my other system.Solved94Views0likes7CommentsNeed Room for Rotational Play in Sunset Valley
I realize that not many people play the Sims 3 rotationally. At least, not many people document that type of gameplay online the way they do for the Sims 2, but I'm planning quite a big undertaking in my own personal game. I have added several families (including plans for new businesses / community lots) to Sunset Valley and plan to play them all in rotation Sims 2 style using NRAAS and other mods. However, I need room for the extra families and the expansion of descendants over time, and unfortunately there's no option to add more space via subhoods like there is in Sims 2. All that to say, does anyone have ideas / techniques (probably using create a world to modify the map I guess?) to expand Sunset Valley with more residential lots in a way that feels organic and keeps most of the premade houses intact? P.S. ~ I know it might sound like if I like Sims 2 style rotational play then I would be better off playing that game, but I love so many things about the Sims 3 like the traits, customization, and open world detail, so I feel like I could better tell my sims' stories the way I want in that game, even if it takes some tweaking to get it working the way I need it to.110Views3likes3CommentsWe need a 64bit version of Sims 3 on Windows as well. Not just Mac.
I'm going, to be frank... it's going to be really disheartening if the Sims team doesn't release an updated version that works properly on windows meanwhile apple users get a version that actually works. I don't want to have to make a virtual machine, buy a cheap used mac, configure a Hackintosh, and enjoy an old title. Nor is this something I should have to do. Currently on my machine it at 20FPS and freezes constantly with a 3990X threadripper, 128GB of ram, and a 2080TI. (Downloaded tools and even changed graphicrules and other files.
