Solved

A Serious Error has occurred while loading {blank}.world

I have ran just about all of the troubleshooting possible. I have no save files, and this is on a fresh install of the game.

  • I fixed this by deleting the files both in my harddrive and in my onedrive. something in there was corrupted so i just got rid of it all. 👍this works just rip your saves if you have them

Edit: here are the file locations

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 3\Game\Bin <- have this one on my hard drive

C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin <- and this one is in my onedrive.

  • I'm having the exact issue. i think it may have something to do with the latest Windows update. I'm so bummed EA had just fixed my game and I made my family and now I cant play them....Sad lonely Sims hoping for solution soon!

Im unsure if i really have an antivirus, but i do have windows security. I attempted to pause syncing for onedrive, as it all goes there and it didnt work still. i set an exception for the sims folder on my local hard drive. however im wondering if im running into a different problem. because i do have 2 locations for this game, one being on my hard drive and the other being in onedrive.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 3\Game\Bin <- i do have this one on my hard drive

C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin <- and this one is in my onedrive.

Another thing i should mention is that this is directly following a crash that happened that forced me to hard shut off my pc. I had alt tabbed out of the game and when i tried to return it black screened and wouldnt come back up so i had to effectively turn off my entire pc just to make it go away.

  • GetCombod  OneDrive is a Microsoft service, not a location.  There is a OneDrive folder, but the second location you listed is not inside it.  You'd literally see "OneDrive" in the file path, for example:

    C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Documents

That's my usual question: whether the Documents directory (as shown by the reg query command I post a lot) is inside this particular OneDrive folder, or is in the standard Users\username\Documents location.

Both the locations you listed are on your system drive, as you can see because their paths start with C.

so it turns out its a temporary fix. and is no longer working. how exactly do i fix it without deleting onedrive all together

  • GetCombod  You could create a new admin Windows account, a local one, and switch to that when you want to play Sims 3.  Making it local means not linking an email address, which means OneDrive can't hook into that account, but it will still be available in your main one.

Or you could move your Documents directory out of OneDrive without getting rid of OneDrive altogether.  However, for any files in Documents you want synced, you'd have to copy them from the current Documents directory to the Documents folder in OneDrive, for example these, respectively:

    files are here by default:
    C:\Users\your username\Documents
and you copy them to here:
    C:\Users\your username\OneDrive\Documents
    then OneDrive uploads them

To move the Documents directory, you could tell OneDrive to stop syncing Documents only, or you could edit your computer's registry to set a different location.  Keep in mind that after a Windows update, you might be asked if you want to resume syncing, and saying yes would move the Documents directory back into the OneDrive folder.

The right answer is whatever works and is easiest for you.

  • I play the Sims on an Alienware M18 R2 Laptop, with Windows 11. I unsynched One Drive, then un-installed and reinstalled the Sims3. I have several exceptions allowed in my Anti-virus Avast for the Sims 3. After Reinstalling I did not change move or edit any files in the newly installed game. FYI..my game fully downloads and installs from the EA game App. I made a second attempt at starting a game by trying to delete the Bin folder also, Unfortunately, I reicieved the same error message. So, I don't know what to do...packed up Sims waiting to move back home! Thanks for any words of wisdom!

  • SavageRhiannon  Did you try renaming the Sims 3 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts?  Did you try the new, local admin Windows account?  If not, please do both.
