Adult sim won't pick up toddler

I just reinstalled my Sims 3 game and all of it's expansions. I created my first household which has one cat, a toddler, and an elderly woman. I tried to set up their relationship as mother in daughter, because basically the elderly woman is supposed to be her grandmother, but was only able to set them up as housemates.

Anyways, when I started to play I clicked on the toddler and told the grandmother to pick the toddler up, she walked over then stood there only to not pick her up and walked away. So, then I tried having her put the toddler in the crib, same problem. Tried having her feed the toddler in high chair, same problem. Tickle her, snuggle her, same problems. The only command that seemed to work was teaching the toddler to talk.

I'm out of ideas, I talked to someone through the live chat customer service and was told to reset the sims, and that didn't do anything. Was told to direct my issue to the forums and found that some people in the Sims 3 community forums asked similar questions here's a link to that search: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/jforum.page?module=search&action=search&forum=10&match_type=all&search_keywords=won%27t+pick+up+toddler

Please help me, I'm stuck and really want to play my game.

dunno if this will work but it's worth giving it a go to edit town click on your household move them out and back in or  go to edit town click on your household save a copy to the libiary delete the one that appears in the clipboard top left then move the family back in from the libiary

now I build the house and already furnished it, if I do this would I have to worry about the houses furnishings not being there any more?

They should be still there. No worries.

You can also backup the house to the library to be extra sure. Go to edit town and save the house.

Okay first off thank you, that seemed to work. I have another problem, I had uninstalled and redownloaded and installed The Sims 3 and all it's expansions, because before my game would keep freezing and sometimes it would crash, when I started playing before the issue with the grandmother not picking up the toddler the game ran smoothly. Now the game is running not so smoothly, it keeps freezing up, it has yet to crash, but why does it keep freezing up on me???
