Recently, every time my Sims have a baby, the parent will be doing something with the baby and they won't do anything else. It sticks like that until they come take the baby (all kids) away, then everything goes back to normal...
have you tried the reset sims cheats ?
to reset all sims ctrl+shift+c hold all 3 together in the menu bar that appears at the top of the screen type in resetsim * (inculding the * hit enter ) this will reset all sims inculdeing your own
to reset one sims ctrl+shift+c hold all 3 together in the menu bar that appears at the top of the screen type resetsim first name last (of your sim ) hit enter for example my sim is named John Dear i type in resetsim John Dear
and maybe try to use the sim phone or computer to see if you can adopt your kids back to the family i don't know if that will work as i never tries it with kids it did work for me on a cat my sims had same sort of situation in a way, but i adopted it back to the house
