amjoie thank you so very much for your fast answer and indepth help. I will definitely start tomorrow and follow your instructions. I know nothing about files (except what I learned in Sims 2 with XP and these are very different with Sims 3 and Windows 8) :-) Your instructions seem easy to follow, appreciate that. I'm 61 and not a PC whiz....you could put in a thimble my knowledge. I'm glad you gave me two ways to try so if the 1st doesn't work I have another option. I'm addicted to this game....it is my favorite past-time. I feel like you threw a drowning person a life saver  Thanks again so much!
I'm happy to help. If you get stuck somewhere, just ask more questions. One way or another, we'll help you get your game working. :)
I am using Windows 7, not 8, but I believe you will still find what you need in the Documents folder, under Electronic Arts, and then The Sims 3.
