Can I play the base game with digital EP, without redeeming the base game code?

So I have the base game and couple of expansion packs in physical form, I cannot redeem the codes online, as I already did on one of my old accounts, to which I don't have access anymore. I was think...

I don't believe it will work without a registered base game, as The Sims 3 packs will only download if the base game is updated to version 1.69, which is only possible through Origin.
