I have both sims 4 and 3 installed on external hd. I don’t have enough space on my mac to have sims with mods
@Arishka145 That should be fine, both overall and for my next suggestion if this one doesn't work. First, please repair the game once more and see whether that helps, still using the clean folder I mentioned before. And try downloading the content using Firefox.
If that doesn't help, please create a new admin user account on your Mac. Don't connect it to your Apple ID (you should be able to skip that step). Open Origin in the new account and repair Sims 3, yet again, which will create a few files that tell Origin you own Sims 3 and that wouldn't exist in that new account. Try to download one Store item in the new account. After downloading but before installing the item, close the launcher and open it again. When you click Install, look for a second plumbob.
In the new account, Sims 3 will create a user folder directly in Documents > Electronic Arts. You could move this to the external drive with a symbolic link, but please don't do that yet—it would be best to see whether the Store content works with as few potential complicating factors as possible. An otherwise clean folder with one Store item won't occupy much space at all.

@puzzlezaddictIt worked, the item installed without any issues, but after I moved the folder to external hd it stopped working. How that can be fixed?

@Arishka145 Did the already-installed content work in-game once the folder was moved to your external drive? There are two separate matters here: whether you can install this content while your user folder is on an external drive, and whether content originally installed on the internal drive will work once it's on the external. I'm guessing you can see where I'm going here: you might have a viable workaround if you can install the content on the internal and move it later.
It would be simple enough to install more content internally and then add it to the external later as well. I can walk you through that if you like, but there's no point if the content breaks once it's on the external.
Additionally, how is the external drive formatted? You can see it in Disk Utility if you don't already know. And please list the full path to the external folder, and also list the location where Sims 3 is installed.
