PurpleSweetTart The entire game itself takes up about 32 GB. Store content may be another 5 GB or so, depending on how much you own. You can have as much custom content as you can download, but above about 10 GB (there's some variation), performance would be bad enough that you would want to cut back significantly. So putting aside saves, I would say you can estimate that the game will take up about 50 GB of space.
Saves can get large, and you can hoard backups, so it's impossible to tell you how much space they'll occupy in the end. But if you have more than about 100 saves, they won't even all load at the Main Menu, and no one needs that many backups. So I'd suggest allocating another 20-30 GB for saves at most, plus a little extra wiggle room in case you don't want to clean out your backups right away. That puts the entire game just under 100 GB, nowhere near a terabyte. It's always nice to have more space than you need, but that's not critical.
Sims 4, all current packs included, is around 60 GB, and you can use a lot more custom content without dragging down performance. Saves are smaller though, maybe 200 MB at the largest but usually more like 50-80 even if you've played them for a while. Sims 1 and 2 are significantly smaller than 3.
Yes, you'll need to install the EA App in order to see what you do and don't own. Open your Library (upper-left corner), click Sims 3, and select Manage > Manage add-ons. All of the ones you own should show up there. You can also click Add-ons above the Sims 3 game tile to see everything available for purchase and whether you own it.
I would suggest NOT buying Store worlds from there but rather using the relevant ea.com page. Worlds need to be registered on the Store site, and it seems like purchases through the EA App come with unusable codes more often than ones bought on the website.
When I said I own everything still available to purchase, I meant I own all expansions, all stuff packs except Katy Perry Sweet Treats, and all Store worlds (although I didn't buy Barnacle Bay, I got it for free because of some mix-up a long time ago).
