I have a similar problem as the guy says. Could you please help me? I am quite desperate.
@jkorenar What exactly happens when you try to save the household, and what have you tried so far? My first suggestion would be to evict the household in Edit Town and save from there; my secnd would be to evict and place the household on an empty lot, quit, delete the cache files (mentioned earlier in the thread), reload, and try to save the household that way.
In either case, don't try to save the house with the sims—it just increases the chances of something going wrong. You can save the house itself separately once the sims have been evicted.

@puzzlezaddict At first I would like to apologize for using not the right phrases as in the game, but I play game in my language so I'd try to translate it in the best way.
So at first, I made up a family of 3 sims, two brothers and the wife of one of them. Brothers are magicians. Then one of them moved to a different house with his husband- and have 3 kids now, also magicians. The previous family has 4 kids, magicians too. Each of both of the families has about 3-5 popularity stars.
Recently I have discovered that I can download templates of houses and this kind of stuff from the internet and put it into my sims. I have downloaded plenty of items, families, houses etc. One of the families above lives in the downloaded house.
Today I have installed two more EP, University life and Island Paradise. The first thing I did this morning was that according to new EP's, sims offered me to move my family to a brand new town, so I agreed and we were moving. Then the new city appeared and... it was said to 'choose a house or to make new sims'. There was no option to move my family to a new house, my family was gone. Then I refused to save the game.
So I find myself in the same position as before, reloaded my game right before attempting of moving. I signed my sim to university, but while appearing in university city, again, no option for picking up a house to live in, I should choose a house to play or to make new sims. So again, the same position, refused to save the game, reload it again. I had an idea, to save my sims with their houses to the library and then to pick a new world and place them there. But it wasn't possible, again. Yeah, the first attempt of saving went really weird cause it saved only half of the family, of total 6 sims and 2 pets only 3 sims and 2 pets were saved, but why not the rest?
I have tried to separate them, move one of them to another family, move to another house. But every attempt of saving my family was unsuccessful. Only one successful thing is that i was able to save my houses of both families when it was empty.
I deleted cache files as u mentioned, I tried to copy my world, I tried to get rid of celebrity stars, all items in inventory but I am still not able to save them in my library.
Of course I tried another family from saved town, I mean completely different family, not my own, and I have tried to save them to library, it worked. Moving, university or saving - worked.
But no error appeared, it just seem to be saved to library, but its not there. If it says whats wrong, it would be much easier.
IDK, please help me to figure it out, I hope it's possible. Thank you.
PS: I would have texted you privately but i am not able.

@jkorenar Travel transitions are fragile and can break easily, as can an in-game move to a new town. So I'm not surprised that both of those broke for you.
Have you tried evicting your sim household and placing them on a new empty lot before saving them? You'd want to "save as," quit, delete the caches, and reload after moving the household and before trying to save.
If that doesn't or didn't work, try doing the same except in a clean user folder. Move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop and open the launcher to create a new folder. Open the old folder and copy the Saves folder inside, then paste it into the new Sims 3 folder. Don't move over anything else. Load your save and go through the above process again.
If this works, you'll see a file inside ...\The Sims 3\Library that corresponds to your sim household, and you can move or copy it to wherever you want. I'd definitely make a backup copy of this file, and of the file from the house itself if you choose to save it, in case you need them later.

@puzzlezaddict I've tried your suggestion but it didn't work ☹️((( I moved my family to a brand new lot, saved, created new folder, inserted Saves folder into new the sims 3 folder, but it did not worked. Or you meant that after making new folder I should move my family to another new lot and then delete cache again ?
