I downloaded the new 64-bit update for the Sims 3 but when I try and launch it it says that it cannot run because the current expansion isn't compatible with the base game and then crashes. I made sure everything was updated and I even uninstalled everything and tried playing just the base game and the same error message popped up. I'm not sure what I need to do to make this run.

@aabomb12 Please open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and delete the file labeled Version.tag. You'll need to open the folders manually; the file won't show up in a normal search.
- 11 months ago@puzzlezaddict I’m very late to this party, I’ve just updated my Mac, downloaded the 64 bit version and had the same message about ‘incompatible base game” I followed your instructions and deleted the version tag file. And when I go to relaunch the game it’s giving me a blank screen with a spinning wheel. What do I do now? Please help 🙏🏼

@amyamelia91 Please move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and try again to play.
If this doesn't help, let me know whether you have iCloud Drive enabled and syncing Documents. Open System Preferences/Settings > Apple ID, click iCloud on the left, and see whether iCloud Drive is checked. If it is, click Options, and you'll see which folders are syncing. If iCloud Drive is enabled, please also let me know how much free and total storage you have, and whether Optimize Mac Storage is enabled, both towards the bottom of the window.
Please also let me know whether you use a third-party antivirus or some kind of cleaner app.
