@SSinclair90 Please go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and delete the Version.tag file.

@Stylikpaylinoran You're totally fine posting here. Are you having exactly the same error? There are quite a few floating around.
If you have iCloud Drive enabled, it's possible you're looking in the wrong place for the Sims 3 folder, i.e. in iCloud's version of Documents rather than the local one. To get to the local version, open a Finder window, click Macintosh HD (or whatever you've renamed your hard disk) in the left panel, then Users > your username > Documents. If you don't see your hard disk listed, click Finder in the upper left corner of your screen, then Preferences > Sidebar, and check the box next to hard disks.
- 5 years ago@puzzlezaddict Thank you! Yea, I get the exact same error message every time I try starting up the game.
I tried doing what you said with adding the hard disk to my sidebar again and checked it, however the only thing I find under documents is a folder i made myself.. I don't seem to have that folder anywhere, that would make it work. And when I try searching for the Version.tag file (in a naive hope it might show up) nothing comes up? Is that because it's just not there anymore, and if so is there anything else I can do to make my game work?- puzzlezaddict5 years agoHero+
@Stylikpaylinoran You can use Terminal to search for the file, just in case it's hiding somewhere. Open Applications > Utilities, launch Terminal, and copy and paste this exact line:
find / -name "Version.tag" 2>/dev/null
The command will take a while to finish running, so give it a minute or so even if it's not immediately spitting out results. You'll know it's done when you see the command prompt again. If Terminal does find any copies of the file, please post the full file path here. You can write [username] instead of your actual username, but leave the rest of the file path intact.
If there aren't any copies of Version.tag, then clearly it's not causing the error. In that case, please repair the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click (or hold crtl and click) on the Sims 3 icon, and select Repair. If that doesn't help, please let me know what packs, if any, you've installed, and whether you ever had the 32-bit version of Sims 3 installed on this computer.
