I have once read an article about programmer types.
- There's the clean code developer who writes highly flexible, maintainable and expandable code in a well structured manner, that is self explanatory for other developers and makes use of well documented and successful design patterns. The CCD uses testdriven development.
- The duct tape programmer, who doesn't care for structure at all. A new code block here and there, maybe even some copy&paste ("I have done this before in another project"). A quick test run, it works, so it's good. No TDD at all because it only takes time and money to write tests.
There were several more types mentioned which I currently can't recall off hand.
From what I see the guys over at EA are duct tape programmers (maybe not even out of their own persuasion but because they are forced to). Ayende Rahien summed it all up about that type.
