I really don't want to add any fuel to the fire cause I'm still not able to verify any of this myself.
I was sent two different sets of files. One was cleaned of everything in the Sims3Pack except the Sim itself but the Sim itself had mucho CC attached to it.
The other set (consisting of 4 Sims) were stripped of the thumbnails but the CC was still there. One also had the attaching issue and only one was completely clean.
So what does transfer ?
1. Non-Default Skins, Makeup, Accessory and Shoes (there are very few clothing that do this too, one being the infamous apron). Those are former PACKAGE files and not Sims3Packs.
2. Sims3Pack stuff that does no get cleaned properly. This can be anything that comes with Sims (aka CAS Parts)
3. The doll will NOT transfer. They corrected the issue in patch 1.4 and since then it has not been spreading UNLESS you actually used a Sim in your house. Since the doll is an object and not a CAS part, it will not spread. The same is true for any other object.
4. This is not anymore dangerous than downloading a Sim from the Exchange. It works the same way. You install the Sim in your game and you get everything it comes with.
Hmmm so if the sim is packed with package file content then how would the game read it, if it's not actually in your mods folder? I'm confused, like with the transfer of nondefault skins. Will that attach itself to the dc cache folder? Where is the coding left for something like that? Also default facial hair, eyes, etc. Because then we'll at least know what to delete once we're done with simporting. I have CC, so I don't mind sim porting with someone else who has it also, as long as I can delete it from my game with zero problems. I know too delete the sim from my sim bin, saved sim folder, downloads folder, and export folder. But now that non default skins, default eyes, facial hair etc can be attached. That's a whole different ball game.
