Hi.
Currently trying to install some extra EPs for TS3 using the EA App.
This seems to require me to chose/change the install directory. I don't remember having to do this manually before, but now it seems to be necessary, because if I leave that field blank (i.e. don't click on 'change' at all), the download button stays greyed out and the window just gets stuck on "calculating disk space" forever, whereas if I choose a directory the download is attempted.
However, the download always immediately pauses and if I click on download again I get the red error text "something went wrong. Try again later."
I'm not sure if perhaps I've chosen the wrong directory. The one I've tried is C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 3\\ , which seems to be where all my other stuff for the game is. I've also tried just C:\Program Files\EA Games\
Have already tried re-installing the EA App and also running the App Recovery program to no avail. Would appreciate any help. Many thanks.
Edit: Thank you for merging my thread here.
Since posting, I have tried:
Uninstalling and re-installing TS3 in EA App. On re-downloading the base game, I get the same error message "Something went wrong. Try again later." However, the base game actually does download and install fine despite this.
Unfortunately, I am still unable to install EPs, even if I do it at the same time as the base game, with the automatically suggested directory address.
Installing Origin and using a workaround to make it functional. This allows me to re-install the base game no problem; however, there is no tab for EPs so no option to install them. Apparently this is a known limitation of this version of Origin.
I tried installing the EPs in the EA App to the Origin-installed base game, but came across the same "Something went wrong" issue as before.
Run as administrator did not help if I recall correctly, but I will check again, and also try the completely new install directory as suggested when I get a moment.

Thank you for the suggestions @EA_Leeuw and @puzzlezaddict
Unfortunately I think I've been through everything now and nothing's worked.
Here are the steps I took, with no success:
1. Used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall TS3 and EA App, using the Advanced option to remove all related files.
2. Restarted my computer.
3. Quit Malwarebytes, and turned off Windows Defender firewall and real-time virus protection.
4. Re-downloaded and installed the EA app.
5. Ran EA App Updater. Learned I do indeed have the latest version.
5. Ran EA App as administrator.
6. In File Explorer, created file C:\\Games
7. In EA App, chose to install TS3 base game and various EPs to my folder C:\\Games, resulting in the actual install location C:\\Games\The Sims 3
8. Observed the base game installed okay. At one point I got an error popup, but no red text beneath the progress bar, and the base game installed and launches fine. However, when it came to the EPs, it was the usual "Something went wrong. Try again later," and inability to resume download.
9. Ran EA App Error Reporter and submitted a report.
10. Tried once more to install an EP on top of the now re-installed base game. I had to manually choose an install location, to which the EA App added that weird second dash. And when I confirmed I got the familiar red text, "Something went wrong. Try again later" beneath the progress bar, and the download was unsuccessful.
(11. Obviously, re-enabled my anti-malware.)
I think all of that included everything suggested so far.
The Error Report reference I received at step 9 was 559c49f3-5c62-45f0-9a3e-0899c215f5bc

I tried pretty much everything too and there was another topic or two for this exact same problem that the ea app doesn't download the sims 3 and all other games can be downloaded fine except the sims 3
so if anyone else has another solution am open to any at this point
