EA app will not launch The Sims 3

Recently had to wipe my drive because I accidentally clicked on a suspicious link and ended up getting a virus on my Windows 11 64-bit PC. I wiped the drive completely, erasing all my data and I reset it via the Cloud, and chose the "set up as a new PC" option, rather than choosing to restore a previous backup. I also signed up for a free trial of McAfee antivirus and ran a full virus scan to completion.

I installed the app and my games (all of which are on a disk with the exception of Generations, which was bought digitally on the EA app), uninstalled OneDrive, and installed the following: DirectX 9; Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable MFC (x86); Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable MFC (x86); and Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable MFC (x64 and x86). I then installed PC updates, and restarted my PC.

Then, I tried to play the game by running the EA app as Admin, but when I click the game and click "Play" on the EA app, the EA app closes for half a second then pops back on my screen, but the Sims 3 launcher won't load. I tried repairing the game, then the App Recovery option and the Restart App option on the EA launcher.

Something I thought was weird and possibly related is that the Electronic Arts folder is not in my Documents folder, like it should be. I can't find it anywhere on my PC.

I did speak to an EA advisor but the things they suggested I do were all things I had already done, up above, so they actually told me to go here.

I have hundreds of dollars worth of Sims 3 games and don't know what to do! Please someone help a Simmer out. I would appreciate it so much.

Correction: I have the 64-bit version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable MFC, not the 86-bit version.

  • v282muyd5lsv  Did you also install .NET Framework 3.5?  Trying to launch Sims 3 should prompt you to install it, but if not, and it's not already present, the launcher wouldn't even open, as you're seeing right now.  So please double-check.  Click Windows key-R, enter appwiz.cpl in the run box, click "Turn Windows features on or off," and the .NET entries will be at the top of the list.  If you need to install it, restart your computer afterwards.

You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling it, which is occasionally necessary for other players.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

As for the VC++ runtimes, Sims 3 only uses the 2005 x86 version, so the others don't matter.

Thank you very much, I did have to uninstall and reinstall .NET Framework 3.5 and now it works perfectly. I appreciate you!
