Ea Download Manger wont update right after buying new games

after buying two new expansions for the Sims 3 origin asks me to update my game from the launcher before installing the new expansions. when I go to the launcher I get a message that ea download manger cannot connect. I have turned off anti-virus and firewalls, I have uninstalled and reinstalled origin. I don't know what else I can do...
