I've had this issue, my sim was returning to Uni for a second degree and after graduation simply kept going to different lots when i clicked the go home icon.
I knew something was up as all throughout his term at uni I was unable to interact with the smart phone or any other sims, nor the sim I was using. He automatically went to classes and I could interact with places and objects but that was it. Luckily I saves as instead of saving over my current game.
I have absolutely no mods and installed all the expansions and base game newly on my brand new PC which runs Windows 8. I have some store stuff, clothes and a couple of lots. Clearing my cache didn't work.
Really disappointing seeing as they hyped up the expansion so much. Maybe they should take a break on island life and try fixing the expansion that we've all waited so long for so we can actually play properly.
