Stones Throw roofs causing no snow

Hi all!
I'm play-testing a world I'm building and noticed a few lots with no snow or weird snowless patterns. I realized they all had those glass roofs from the Stones Throw Greenhouse set. This has never happened to me before - I love those roofs. I removed them from some of my builds and the snow appeared, but it'd be a bummer to have to remove them. I tested in other worlds (the second photo is from Sunset Valley) and same thing happened. I've tried taking out CC, redownloading from the store, and still no snow. I may test on another PC if I can get it to work to see if it works, but I'm at a loss on getting snow back on these lots while keeping those roofs. Thought I'd ask for any ideas.

  • starlysh  Please post a screenshot of your graphics settings.  Open the settings, put the game into windowed mode, and use Windows key-shift-S to take a screenshot.

Please also open DeviceConfig.log, inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3, and post the first 40 or so lines.  (Stop when you get to Options.)  You can delete your user and computer names, about 20 lines down; the file doesn't contain any other personal information.

  • starlysh  Your graphics settings mostly look fine, although I'd suggest turning High Detail Lots down to 2 or 3 for performance reasons.  Your GPU can handle higher, but the game engine cannot.

Just as a test, try moving Options.ini (in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3) to the desktop, which will reset your in-game options, graphics and otherwise.  Don't change anything other than resolution and fullscreen/windowed; just load a save and see whether the snow is still missing.  If this doesn't help, you can delete the new Options.ini and restore the old one.

I doubt this is related to your unrecognized graphics card, but if you do want to get it recognized just to be sure, I can help with that.  Let me know.

  • I had this issue years ago. I hope you find a fix, I couldn't and just accepted they're weird in the snow.
