Expansion Pack not downloading due to Origin
Hi everyone,
I recently downloaded the Sims 3 again without the expansion packs. When I tried to reinstall them, Origin thinks they're already downloaded - which isn't true. The only expansion pack that I could download was Late Night, which wasn't recognised as downloaded for some reason and that downloaded with no problem.
I've attached some screenshots of the game and what it shows up on Origin next to the pack.
My computer stats are:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac12,1
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
and I'm on OS X Yosemite. I've tried everything that I can think of, like uninstalling and reinstalling the Sims 3 and Origin - as well as debugging it with another program but that doesn't work either. I've also tried clicking 'play', but then it comes up with a bootstrap error. Tech Support is also offline at the moment.
I hope someone can help me, as this is so frustrating!
Thank you! 🙂
P.S. None of the files from the Expansion Packs are on the computer.
@joeaddie If that other Mac is not yet running macOS Catalina, you can install the base game on it, download your packs, and transfer the installers to your current Mac. Each installer lands in Origin's DownloadCache folder, from where Origin launches it when you click Install. But you can move these installers around and manually launch them if you want.
Open a Finder window and click Macintosh HD (or whatever you've renamed your hard disk) in the left panel. If you don't see it, click Finder in the upper left corner of your screen, then Preferences > Sidebar, and check the box next to Hard disks. From there, the path is:
Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Origin > DownloadCache
Once you've downloaded a pack, inside that folder will be a labeled with a string of numbers, and inside that will be a .dmg (disk image), which is the installer. You can transfer this installer to your main Mac and launch it from the desktop. Just make sure you have the product key for each pack you want to install, because the installer won't show it before asking. If you don't have the keys, click Install on the Mac that downloaded the pack, copy down the key when you see it, then click Cancel.
On the subject of getting a gaming PC, I can certainly help with that. But "affordable" means different things to different people, and prices vary a lot from one country to the next as well. So please let me know more or less what your preferred budget is, and in what currency.
