Forgot my activation code (win xp)

@Supermanred If you installed Sims 3 on this computer at some point, the code may still be available in the registry. Here's how to find it:
https://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2013/09/how-to-find-your-serial-number.html
You may also have registered the code in Origin on on the old Sims 3 site and some point. In that case, you'd simply need to sign in to the EA App using that same email address, and Sims 3 would appear in your library.
Hopefully you have a different computer to play on, because the minimum requirement for the EA App is Windows 7 SP1. You could however install via disc, without the EA App, if your disc is old enough (pre-September 2012) and you find the product code.
If neither of these helps, then yes, you'll need to buy the game again. If it's any consolation, Sims 3 is now sold as the Starter Pack: the base game plus one expansion and one stuff pack together for the normal price of an EP or SP. So you'd be getting two extra packs along with the base game for $20 U.S. or similar, or as low as $8 during sales.
