Freezes at Build/Buy

Hello, ever since the wonderful update that allows newer laptops to launch the game without doing all that extra stuff, I haven't really played my game because I haven't had the time.

But, now, I'm ready. Except my laptop isn't now. I tried to play. And for a little while, it was okay. I was making a family. And then, I was editing the world by adding buildings in Bridgeport. Everything was kinda slow, but by the time I started to building a house on a medium sized lot, the game became SO SLOW. Lagging to the point where it was unplayable. Putting down one piece of furniture takes 10 minutes-and that's without even changing swatches.

I haven't gone into to Live Mode, yet. Only CAS and Build Buy and World Edit.

IDK what is wrong. I rarely use this Legion laptop for anything. And before the patch that made the game easier to launch, my game ran smoothly. The graphic were terrible, but I could play in any world without any problems-even Isla Paridiso. I could place homes. Build mansions. All that.

IDK if my settings are messed up or what? The graphics are still bad. But now the game hardly works.

My questions are:

Do I need to change my settings in the game? I don't even know what that means or how to do it.

Do y'all think it's my computer? The specs will be below. I don't understand any of this. If my specs are the issue, please tell me what laptop you're using. I have most of the packs, a lot of sims 3 store things, and some CC. But, I've had all this on older and flimsier laptops with no problem. But, it is something to consider. So if you have 3 packs, no CC, and your game is still slow... maybe your laptop wouldn't be the best for me. But I really appreciate you and happy simming!

Here are my specs. Once more, IDK if this is even helpful, but I'm trying. Please help.

Oh, yes. It is saved under OneDrive. How do I get it off of one drive?

  • K-bobster  That's usually OneDrive-related.  Is your Windows account's Documents directory currently in OneDrive?  (Your computer will have several Documents folders, but only one is specified as the directory for a given user.)  To find out, search in Windows for Command Prompt, open it, and enter this command:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

Let me know what you see.

Separately, you should be able to save the lot alone without trying to save your progress in the save overall.

So, I moved the folder and started a new game. And I was building this super cute house. But sadly, when I go to save it from World Edit, I receive Error Code 16. It says " An unexpected error has occurred while saving: Error Code 16. Please consult the readme for details".

    :(

that did something, because the launch screen was blank before, but now it's back on.

so far, it's running good. all my cc is gone and sims store stuff is gone. is there an easy and quicker way to put those sims 3 store things back?

  • K-bobster  Move the whole folder, to be thorough.  If a new save in the new folder is fine, you can copy your old save to the new Sims 3 folder and test that without any other added content.

Do I move the full Sims 3 folder, or just the saved game?

  • K-bobster  Let's make sure this isn't a save or settings issue first.  Move or rename the Sims 3 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, so the game creates a new one.  Start a new save in Sunset Valley, jump into building, and let me know how it goes.

Build mode always lags a bit eventually, but it shouldn't lag so much or so quickly.  If that still happens in the new save, I'd like to see a dxdiag from your computer.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please also let me know whether you've taken steps to manually limit your in-game framerates.
