I also cannot post this on the Sims 3 forums, because I cannot make an account there. All 3 of the product codes listed in Origin, as well as the Starter Pack serial number I have from Humble Bundle are called "invalid" by the account registration process. EA really does not want me as their customer.
See this for the humble bundle: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/IMPORTANT-How-do-I-redeem-my-Humble-Origin-Bundle-code-for-the/td-p/1390706/

As for your other issue, try bypassing the launcher as described here: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps/td-p/714/
This is just for testing purposes to see if the game itself works.

Thanks for the help, but as I mentioned, I still get the launcher error even when I run the game executables.
Thankfully, I haven't had problems with the Humble Bundle. According to a thread on the official forums, games owned on Origin should automatically link to the official site profile once the game starts.
But getting the game started is the problem for me. I uninstalled everything and then installed only the base game, but I'm still having the same problems. Any ideas?
EDIT: These were the game versions that are installed by Origin. It seems there's lots of trouble related to patching, so I'm posting this just in case:
Sims 3 = 1.42.130

Try downloading the patch manually here:
