I have The Sims 3 with multiple expansion and stuff packs installed, as well as a bit of custom content.
Every now and then the game will freeze for 10 to 15 mins, however things like trees swaying and fountain animations continue to move. I can't select anything, I can't move the screen, I can't pause the game, and so on.
If someone has any insight I'd really appreciate the help.

I had had this problem too. did you update game or install expansion/stuff packs wiht coustom content on it? that is what i did and to fix it i first went to installed content in the launcher and then check the box by run without custom content and then deleted all installed content and then went to downlaods and deleted everthing there too i also deleted all save games and then it started to work
Try resetting all your Sims in your town with the cheat resetsim *.
You might have a stuck Sim somewhere
