So here are the pics of what I'm talking about with the sim wearing the lab coat instead of the doctor/science worker coat.
Here's Marshall Curious in the lab coat & glasses working on a potion:

And here's when he turned around to go to work. You'll notice that it's the same exact outfit:http://llnw.thesims3.com/sims3_asset/sims3_asset/media/shard000//shard000/079/765/008/00/screenshot_original.jpg
And here's a shot of Rich Wheloff so you can see the differences between the outfit Marshall Curious should be wearing to work and the one he actually is: http://llnw.thesims3.com/sims3_asset/sims3_asset/media/shard000//shard000/081/765/008/00/screenshot_original.jpg
I'm thinking there is a possibility that this might be intentional. The sims in the doctor/science professions who use the chemistry lab at home start wearing that outfit instead of their regular one, perhaps to denote who has been using the lab?
I'm really hoping that this is reserved for only those career tracks that use lab coats, it'd be really bizarre to have a town full of people in lab coats, all because they used the at home chemistry set. I haven't tested this yet but I'm thinking I'll do that now.
Be back later with my findings.
