The stuck metals and gems might perhaps be related to a bug that has already existed since at least Ambitions: Travelling or moving an existing family into a new neighbourhood will cause gems and metals to lose most of their information. If you drag such a broken gem out of the inventory to the ground it will show as a Blue Topas no matter what the gem actually is and metals lose their weight and their value accordingly. Quite often it happens therefore, too, that if you collect a new specimen of the metal or gem they will not stack with the old, broken one and are considered as a completely different type.
Both traveling and changing neighbourhood cause a reset of many things as does patching your game. I wouldn't be surprised therefore, if this patch related reset now finally causes to break these collectibles completely and makes them unusable.
I am still playing 1.19 and I just moved my Sim together with his house from one world to another. He had an uncut Pink Diamond in his garden (it was a left-over from his first move-in scenario - the burial ground one) and an uncut Tiberium in his personal inventory. Both show as Blue Topas now while the description still reads Pink Diamond and Tiberium and both cannot be stacked with any new instance of Pink Diamonds or Tiberium that I have collected in the new world.
