How do I Install Sims 3 on Disc

So, I bought a physical copy of Sims 3 at a store. Instead of installing the game, it installs Origin. So now I'm trying to figure out how to install it so I can play the game I bought. Help?

  • @oidfoidbs  If your base game disc was manufactured in September 2012 or later, it requires you to install Origin first and allow the app to control the install process.  You can check the back of the sleeve the CD case came in—it should have a copyright date in fine print somewhere along the bottom.  Discs that require Origin also usually have an Origin logo on the front of the case or sleeve.

If your disc does require Origin, it's probably easier to just register your game code in Origin (or the Sims 3 store) and download the digital version.  There are fewer steps and fewer ways for the install process to go wrong.

If you happen to have found a disc from prior to September 2012 (although they're not generally available anymore), you have to decline to let the EA Download Manager control your install.  The EADM was Origin's predecessor and will attempt to "update" itself to Origin proper.  Many players who want to reinstall TS3 from discs disconnect their computers from the internet, just to be safe.

@oidfoidbs  The problem with installing this game from disc is the disc install will install SecuROM and SafeDisc.  SecruROM will limit you to 3 (I think 3 maybe 5) installs before the license is blocked if you don't recover a slot when you do an uninstall. SafeDisc will requires that you have the latest released to market disc in  the optical drive to play. While you may not mind these DRM techniques Windows and OSX no longer support them. Origin is like Steam and your Origin account is now the DRM for this game. You have to have an Internet connection to activate the game at the very least.
