The difference is that you are installing your cc in a new "officially sanctioned" Mods/Packages folder in your game data folder (Documents). All of your game data exist in The Sims 3 folder, which should be the only folder for the game in that location. Which is also the reason I think you don't need d3dx9_31.dll as you only have the one folder. However, some others feel differently.
Under Programs is where you would have folders for The Sims3 base game, eps, and sps which run the game. Having the Mods/Packages folder under Programs is confusing to lots of people, especially if you don't know how it works. If you mess up anything in your program folders you can actually destroy your PC/Laptop.
Hi Blu,
I hope you don't mind but I have a couple of questions for you regarding the installing of CC. I have problems doing things manually but for some reason which I can't work out now, I decided to use the Helper Monkey program. I think I just thought it would be easier or something like that. Anyway, I'm really looking to get rid of this program now and do things manually.
My first question is regarding the mods folder itself. I'm not sure if the Helper Monkey put the folder there or whether it was put there during an update, but I have a Mods folder in my base game folder: > Program Files > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 If I were to just Cut and Paste this folder into The Sims folder in My Documents then uninstall the Helper Monkey would that work? Or maybe I should just put a copy of that Mods folder (which has sub folders in it btw) on the desktop and then uninstall the Helper Monkey?
My second question is regarding the Resource.cfg file. I have a copy of that in the same place as I described the Mods folder being above. Its dated June of 2009, if I copy that into the Mods folder in the My Documents > The Sims 3 location would that suffice or is it necessary to get the one you've provided the link to download?
I hope this all makes some sort of sense and you can answer my questions for me. I'd really appreciate it because I'd like to be able to use some CC but I don't want to do it in anyway that could wreck my game.
Nikki.
I don't mind at all.
I looked at your registered games and you only have the base game. Are you fully patched? You may not need to install your mods the new way and can continue to do it the old way. FYI - I still do it the old way.
You said you have Delphy's Installer Helper Monkey. From what you've posted, the installer did created the Mods/Packages folder and installed it correctly in your Sims 3 base game programs folder. You may or may not have the d3dx9_31.dll file in so you may need to download it from MTS. I can give you the link if you need to download it.
As for that resource.cfg file, it's the one that the game set up "leave it there". You don't need the NEW Resource.cfg installing cc the old way, which is configured differently than the new one you need if you have Ambitions. The only thing you haven't mentioned is if you have .NET Frameworks installed on your computer. I assume you are running on the Windows OS.
See if your cc works with the Framework set up the old way first. If you still want to remove Delphy's Installer Helper Monkey installer, we can do it after you check to see if you cc shows up. Leave it there for now it's not hurting anything.
If you have more questions, you can leave a post here or send me a msg on YIM.
